Job Duties
The Geisinger Eye Institute is a comprehensive group of ophthalmology and optometry. Our team has an opening for a Pediatric Ophthalmologist to join the group in their new Healthplex in Pittston (Wilkes Barre/ Scranton) Northeast Pennsylvania.
Comprehensive pediatric ophthalmological care for both medical and surgical problems as well as the ability to have a productive adult strabismus practice. Small NICU requiring retinopathy of prematurity coverage with time set aside for this to be performed.
- Multiple pediatric optometry partners to help manage refractive needs.
- Established referral pattern with Geisinger and community pediatrics and community ophthalmology partners.
- Dedicated Pediatric exam lanes and waiting room
- Support from PA-C
- Multiple operating platforms including new ASC and 2 hospitals based operating rooms
- Shared home call
- Ability to work with local medical students from Geisinger Commonwealth medical School.
- Ophthalmology residency in the central region and working towards northeast regional residency program in the coming years that would provide more resident teaching.
There is a large pediatric ophthalmology patient with established referral patterns for a candidate to easily hit the ground running with a busy clinical and surgical practice. A great place to work with collaborative colleagues and great staff.
In the northeast region we have specialties of cornea and external disease, retinal specialists, Oculoplastic, neuro ophthalmology, glaucoma specialists, and multiple comprehensive ophthalmologists.

Position Details
An ophthalmologist has the knowledge and professional skills needed to provide comprehensive eye and vision care. Ophthalmologists are medically trained to diagnose, monitor and medically or surgically treat all ocular and visual disorders. This includes problems affecting the eye and its component structures, the eyelids, the orbit and the visual pathways.
Education Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine- (Required)
Experience
Certification(s) and License(s) Licensed Medical Doctor - State of Pennsylvania
