Job description
Overview:
The Math Tutoring Specialist will advance the student-centered mission of Tutoring Services through responsibilities that include: building and maintaining faculty partnerships, supporting campus resources for math tutoring programs and initiatives, providing tutoring support within the Tutoring Center, and acting in the capacity of the embedded math specialist in the classroom. This person will also assist with the collection and reporting of program data. This is a multi-year grant funded position - continuation is contingent upon renewed funding.

Qualifications:
EDUCATION
Bachelor's Degree in mathematics or mathematics education. Required
Graduate credits in Learning Disabilities, Basic Skills Development, Developmental Education, or related discipline. Preferred
EXPERIENCE
Teaching or tutoring experience. Required
Experience with academically disadvantages students. Preferred
ABILITIES AND SKILLS
Ability to tutor in subject area for which hired. Required
Effective oral and written communication skills. Required
Knowledge of learning theory, learning styles, and educational methods. Required
Functional ability with or aptitude to learn microcomputer functions and software tools necessary to function in a face-to-face and remote tutoring environment. Preferred
Ability to work independently. Required
Responsibilities:
Attend assigned math classes and work with math faculty to engage students during class. This will involve demonstration, clarification, and explanation of concepts.
Assist with planning, organizing, coordinating, and overseeing the embedded and assigned math support activities to optimize student success.
Provide direct services to students through academic support, presentations, and workshops.
Assist students with supplemental learning materials which may include calculators, course related software, and learning packets.
Assist the Grant Project Coordinator with data collection for reports and evaluations.
Maintain a practical expertise in study skills, resources, and success strategies as it relates to math coursework.
Work collaboratively with relevant campus offices including the Math department, Hudock Center for Academic Excellence staff, and Tutoring Services to create programming that meets the needs of special student populations.
Follow up on Early Alert and other student assistance referrals from faculty, staff, or grant providers.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIESAttend department meetings and any related in-service activities as needed.
Work with program staff to create a welcoming and inclusive math study space.
Engage in professional development and contribute to development of learning assistance best practices. (Marginal)
Work with leadership of the Hudock Center for Academic Excellence to help plan, coordinate, advertise and facilitate Math events and marketing efforts as it related to the role. (Marginal)
