Summary/objective: KMS Solutions is seeking a highly motivated individual to join a team of engineers and technicians providing engineering and technical support to the Ranges, Engineering, and Analysis Department at the Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC) in Newport, RI. This multi-disciplinary team is responsible for providing systems safety, environmental qualification testing, and range sustainment in support of undersea warfare systems. Candidates with strong technical writing experience are highly desired. Edit existing content to conform to relevant guidelines and standards and to maximize clarity. Maintain stylistic, notational, and organizational standards to ensure consistent documentation.
Support development of technical reports, procedures, white papers, or other formal documentation with access to appropriate resources such as meeting minutes, requirements documents, drawings, and support from subject matter experts, etc.
Write or revise technical material to standardized for technical reports, manuals, briefs, and other documentation. Work closely with Subject Matter Experts to maximize clarity and ensure documents conform to existing guidelines and standards. Required education and experience: Ability to obtain a Secret DoD clearance.
Bachelor's Degree is a writing, communications, or related field.
Two (2) years of experience of technical writing. Preferred education and experience: Experience specifically with undersea warfare systems and/or providing support at NUWC Division Newport.
Bachelor's Degree is a math, science, engineering, or technical field.
Five (5) years of experience of technical writing. Competencies: Proficient with Microsoft Office applications, specifically Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Thoroughness and attention to detail.
Strong communication skills with the ability to communicate, both orally and in writing, to all levels of the customer and company leadership. Additional eligibility requirements Work authorization/security clearance requirements: Able to maintain a Secret clearance. Position Type/Expected Hours of Work: The typical workday is eight hours in length. Some flexibility in hours is allowed, with concurrence from the supervisor. The employee must be available during the "core" work hours of 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and must account for the hours in a pay period to maintain full-time status. Telework: This is a Hybrid position after the first six months of employment with up to 40% remote. Travel: Up to 10% CONUS travel may be required.
