Job Summary and Qualifications
The Laboratory Portfolio and Services Director is responsible for maintaining knowledge of the Laboratory contract portfolio and communicating the benefits and value of that portfolio to both internal and external audiences. The contract portfolio managed includes: significant spend categories that are sole, dual, or multi source and require conversion activity or extensive implementation and management, or mostly categories greater than $25m in spend, or categories that are highly sensitive to members (e.g. operationally sensitive), or categories that are complex, requiring detailed explanation of features and benefits, and how products compare between suppliers.

The Portfolio Director must have an in-depth knowledge of the contracts, suppliers, and products in their portfolio.

What you will do in this role:

This role will also be accountable for the performance of the Laboratory Advisory Board. Oversight includes but is not limited to ensuring that Advisory Board Members understand and adhere to the Advisory Board Charter. Current Clinical Advisory Boards are made up of 25-28 HealthTrust members per board, representing over 18 health systems within the membership. The boards are a critical part of the HealthTrust business model and exist to ensure contracting decisions align with the clinical requirements of our members. In addition to providing clinical input into the sourcing process, the board performs a variety of critical functions for the GPO such as performing product evaluations, evaluating new technologies, supporting the implementation of contracts, bringing thought leadership on clinical and operational protocols and best practices.

Communications:
  • Communicate contract portfolio benefits and value. Audiences include:
  • HealthTrust account management team
  • Advisory Boards and Supply Chain Board
  • Current/prospective members (supply chain, clinical stake-holders, sr leaders)
  • Suppliers (national acct manager and sales executives)
  • HealthTrust Senior Leadership and/or Equity Board
Advisory Board Operations:
  • Serve as the subject matter expert providing clinical guidance and direction to the advisory boards, sourcing team, global sourcing, and other HealthTrust departments related to Laboratory Services.
  • Strategic alignment of Clinical Advisory Board members by facilitating clinical discussions with the Laboratory Advisory Board to drive contracting strategies, determine clinical and technical requirements for RFPs, make contract award recommendations (and in some cases, contract award decisions), and support implementation of contracts.
  • Lead critical conversations on confidential information to gain alignment and assess root cause of both member and supplier issues.
  • Support strategic initiatives across the organization to align members to the clinical sourcing process.
  • Foster enhanced clinical input within the sourcing process by utilizing HT Advisor to engage HealthTrust members.
  • Develop, plan, and coordinate sourcing and educational activities at conference calls and meetings.
Portfolio Management:
  • Manage, maintain and improve the performance of the contract portfolio, both operationally and financially. Portfolio includes critical and highly committed sourcing categories that require extensive implementation and/or conversions.
  • Construct and manage simple contract amendments with supplier
  • Address product additions, deletions and changes during contract term
  • Be the liaison between sourcing, account mgmt., and customer service
  • Understand supplier new product offerings and collaborate with advisory board lead and business unit leader to assess products
  • Develop contract launch materials and ensure all contract materials are maintained accurately in HealthTrust systems
  • Oversee contract implementation with supplier and communication of contract implementation to HealthTrust account management
Customer Service:
  • Provide exceptional customer service to internal and external customers. Including but not limited to: resolving customer issues (pricing, letters of commitment, product complaints, etc.)
  • Oversee product recall communications
  • Assist account management with members (supply chain, clinical stakeholders, and senior executives).
Portfolio Promotion:
  • Develop strategies and tactics to promote contract portfolio
  • Marketing/promotional opportunities
  • Contract Launch / Contract Lunch-and-Learns
  • Newsletters, bulletins, and other communications.
Sourcing Process Knowledge:
  • Thorough understanding of sourcing process (market research, development of strategies and requirements, engagement with the boards, contract awards)
Portfolio Improvement:
  • Ability to recognize additional cost saving opportunities or new product category coverage opportunities and elevate opportunities to department leader
  • Assess market and supplier dynamics to determine possible sourcing strategies for contract renewals
  • Collaborate with contract negotiator on strategy development as contract bid cycle begins.
Collaboration:

Collaboration required:
  • with Clinical Services team and other key stakeholders to determine appropriate clinical support tools that will be developed for the members
  • with Physician Advisors group on key contract categories to utilize clinical evidence and physician feedback to support the advisory board process
  • with members of the categorization and cross reference team to support the development of the categorization schema and member utilized cross references
  • with legal staff on development and finalization of simple amendments
  • with contract analysts on product/price loading of amendments
  • with communications team on contract launch/implementation
  • with account mgmt. in their member-facing duties related to the portfolio
  • with sourcing team as contracts transition to bid cycle
Supplier Relationship Management:
  • Manage and maintain vendor relationships
  • Conduct supplier business reviews
  • Scorecard supplier performance
  • Build collaborative working relationships
  • In addition to basic supplier relationship management, the Portfolio Director will strategically foster excellent working relationship with strategic suppliers that may cross business units (e.g. Abbott, Siemens).
Supplier Knowledge:
  • Individual must know and be able to use knowledge about supplier to develop strategies, create leverage, mitigate risks, anticipate direction of the market and potential supplier direction.
Includes, but not limited to:
  • interpretation of Supplier SEC filings, annual reports, or analyst reports
  • discussion of future product pipelines with suppliers and customers
  • occasional site-visits to supplier/provider to review current or future technology
  • investigation of new supplier entrants to market
