Requisition Id 13754 Overview: The Design Engineering Group in the Nonreactor Nuclear Facilities Division (NNFD) is seeking a Containment Systems Specialist with a focus on radiological glovebox design. This expert will take full ownership of all containment system service requests within the Design Engineering Group. They will lead collaborations with R&D staff, Principal Investigators, Engineers, Drafters, and Facility Managers to analyze and support containment systems within the Isotope Science and Engineering Directorate (ISED) and other ORNL divisions. Major Duties / Responsibilities: Act as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the design, procurement, fabrication, and functional testing of containment systems and gloveboxes within NNFD and other ORNL Divisions. Provide hands-on support in testing, integrating, and troubleshooting glovebox equipment for both new and existing operations involving radiological materials in nuclear and radiological facilities. Initiate and propose new glovebox projects by analyzing and defining equipment system requirements, project scope, schedule, and budget to meet customer needs. Implement design requirements through activities such as creating process flow diagrams, engineering drawings, and specifications. Manage and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously, coordinating with directorate entities to deliver timely solutions to issues. Participate in professional societies and standards development committees to stay at the forefront of industry advancements. Perform detailed risk assessments and safety analyses to identify potential hazards and implement mitigation strategies Create and update technical documentation, including operating procedures, maintenance manuals, and safety protocols. Provide training and guidance to staff on the proper use and maintenance of containment systems and gloveboxes. Continuously monitor the performance of containment systems and conduct evaluations to identify areas for improvement. Basic Qualifications: BS degree in engineering with 5+ years' experience designing custom equipment. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered instead of a BS degree. 5+ years of glovebox project experience including the design, procurement, testing, & installation phases. Experience serving as a Technical Project Officer (TPO) on procurements requiring ASME NQA-1 quality. Experience participating on teams to develop standards and best practices for glovebox systems. Ability to work and communicate effectively with diverse teams of engineers, scientists, and technicians. Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q clearance. Preferred Qualifications: Experience implementing requirements from national consensus standards such as: NQA-1, AWS/ASME Welding Code, AGS Standards of Practice, and National Electric Code. Knowledge of non-destructive evaluation techniques for the qualification of glovebox containment Established working relationships with glovebox suppliers and SMEs within the glovebox industry. As such, this position is a Workplace Substance Abuse (WSAP) testing designated position.
