Requisition Id 13999 Overview:
We are seeking a Technical Manager in the National Isotope Development Center (NIDC) whose primary responsibilities are to provide technical support to NIDC staff in the areas of isotope production, processing, and distribution; manage the Legacy Isotope & Heavy Element isotope product line; and regularly interface with customers who purchase these isotopes. This position has also traditionally provided subject matter expertise to the U.S. Department of Energy Isotope Program (DOE IP) network in the area of transportation and logistics. This position resides in the NIDC in the Isotope Science and Engineering Directorate (ISED), at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL). The NIDC provides numerous corporate services to the DOE IP and serves as its business interface, regularly communicating with the isotope user community and coordinating isotope production across numerous program facilities (including ORNL). Major Duties/Responsibilities: Provide technical support to NIDC staff in the areas of isotope production, processing, and distribution.
Assist NIDC staff with addressing new production requests from customers and coordinate activities to determine feasibility and implementation requirements.
As the NIDC Product Line Manager for Legacy Isotope & Heavy Element Products:
Help coordinate isotope production/dispensing campaigns with DOE production site managers (primarily Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Los Alamos National Laboratory, and Pacific Northwest National Laboratory).
Manage customer contracts that outline isotope supply agreements (quantities, pricing, schedule, etc.).
Make recommendations to DOE IP for entering/exiting markets.
Identify opportunities for new isotopes to be added to the NIDC product catalog ().
Work with NIDC communications specialist on upcoming product availability announcements.
Document changes to isotope production in Production Change Orders
Help identify new customers for product line and develop strategies for increasing the customer base.
Work with the DOE production sites to establishment and refine isotope product specifications.
Transition new product orders to Product Distribution Specialists after successful market introduction.
As the SME for Transportation and Logistics:
Provide expertise on shipping procedures, container needs, DOT/IATA regs, etc. across DOE IP production network.
Identify opportunities for continuous improvement to current shipping approaches
Lead Transportation Working Group to address program-wide issues, strategic planning, and provide guidance to specific projects
Attend advanced hazardous material transportation training and become proficient in classification of radioactive and hazardous materials for transportation.
Provide technical review and input for the NIDC monthly reports submitted to DOE Isotope Program management.

Basic Qualifications: A BS degree in a science-related or technical field and a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience. Comparable combinations of education and experience will be considered.

Preferred Qualifications: A MS degree in a science/technical or business-related field. Special Requirements: Q clearance: This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a clearance from the Department of Energy. As such, this position is a Workplace Substance Abuse (WSAP) testing designated position.
