Job description
SNI Companies has partnered with a reputable law firm in the North Dallas area that is seeking a qualified Paralegal to join their organization. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the collection and organization of documents and information from various cases at the firm. This candidate should feel comfortable relaying messages between various groups and keeping all documents important to the cases they are working on organized.
Responsibilities:
- Prepares, edits and proofreads a variety of documents (correspondence, agreements and pleadings)
- Creates Masters for new files (Case Information Sheet, Caption, Proof of Service, Letter to Carrier and Client, and Letter to Plaintiff's Counsel)
- Prepares court filings (make copies for filing, service copies, prepare attorney service order slip).
- Assists with trial preparation: create trial notebooks; coordinates trial copy jobs with copy service; coordinates delivery and pick up of trial notebooks, etc. from court.
- Files documents with various courts (traditional and e-filings)
- Creates Table of Contents and Table of Authorities utilizing tables function in Word and create them with accuracy.
- Prepares/finalizes discovery (propounded and/or responses).
- Communicates with court staff regarding various issues.
- Handles outgoing and incoming mail/FedEx for assigned attorneys.
- Maintains calendars to include coordination and scheduling meetings, mediations, depositions, conference calls; Sends calendar invites and reminders, and reserves conference rooms.
- Tracks deadlines and status of cases/matters, and updates attorneys on court deadlines.
- Prepares Trial Memorandum.
- Scans and uploads documents to the firm's document management system.
- Answers telephones taking detailed messages. At request of attorneys, provides follow up and interacts with clients, outside counsel and others
- Checks court calendar regarding motions.
- Processes Deposition transcripts.
- Documents review and "hot docs" selection and arrangement.
- Prepares trial and arbitration hearing binders.
- Assists with drafting pleadings such as: Motion to Strike, Motion for Continuances, Proposed Orders, Requests for Judicial Notice, Evidentiary Objections, etc.
- E-file in State, Federal and Appellate Courts and check the Court's local rules.
- Helps maintain budgets for litigation matters.
- Ensures that physical files are kept updated, maintained, and organized.
- Prepares timelines and demonstrative exhibits.
- Processes outgoing document production that involves redacting, bates stamping.
- Creates Preservation of Evidence Letter and Document Request Letters.
- Drafts and Interact with Process Server for service of subpoenas.
Qualifications
- Previous law firm experience.
- Exceptional organization skills.
- Excellent writing and communication skills.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize workload.
- Teamwork oriented.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office programs.
- Knowledge of legal terminology and principles.
- Ability to analyze legal documents and ensure accuracy.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service.
- Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion with limited guidance.
- Industry recognized certification from organizations such as ABA, NALA or AACP.
- Experience in using legal database software.
- Familiarity with legal terminology and principles.
- The ability to analyze legal documents for accuracy.
- Strong technology skills.
