Job description
Our clinic is looking for a skilled dental assistant to join our team. We are seeking a highly motivated individual who is passionate about providing quality dental care to join our team.

Primary Responsibilities
Responsible for assisting the dentist during dental procedures, including but not limited to: Preparing treatment rooms and sterilizing dental instruments, taking dental x-rays, providing patient education on oral hygiene and post-operative care, and performing dental charting and maintaining accurate medical documentation. May also be required to assist with general front and back office duties.
SPECIFIC DUTIES
Patient Management
- Assisting the dentist during a variety of treatment procedures
- Taking dental radiographs (x-rays)
- Asking about the patient's medical history and taking blood pressure and pulse
- Serving as an infection control officer, developing infection control protocol and preparing and sterilizing instruments and equipment
- Helping patients feel comfortable before, during and after dental treatment
- Providing patients with instructions for oral care following surgery or other dental treatment procedures, such as the placement of a restoration (filling)
- Teaching patients appropriate oral hygiene strategies to maintain oral health; (e.g., toothbrushing, flossing and nutritional counseling)
- Taking impressions of patients' teeth for study casts (models of teeth)
- To be friendly, encouraging and an active listener with patients and co-workers
Records Management
- HIPAA: To ensure that no documents leave the practice premises with any clinical staff member, including associate doctor (ie.; clinical charts, health histories, patient information, etc.)
- Keeping your MSDS Binder up-to-date
- Assure that every patient's HIPAA forms and consent forms are signed and dated before procedures.
- See that records are stored securely and handled in compliance with HIPAA privacy and security regulations
- Accurately file patient information
- Arrange patient charts and radiographs for the next day's appointments
- Track cases and referrals to and from other doctors
- Record chart entries from phone or in-person conversations when appropriate
Inventory Management
- Monitor inventory and order dental office supplies as needed
- Give the office manager the order form for supplies
- Make sure supplies are stocked at all times
- Monitor and make sure all dental office clinical equipment is working properly
- To keep Operatories neat and orderly
- To ensure that no clinical equipment ever leaves the office premises with any clinical staff member, including associate doctor (i.e.; handpieces, instruments, ect.)
Office Participation
- To maintain a sterile and OSHA compliant
- To help ensure the clinic runs in a timely, efficient manner
- To effectively utilize down time with additional responsibilities such as following up on charts, calling patients, checking supplies/finding new suppliers, cost saving ideas, revenue generating ideas
- Be an active participant in staff meetings
- To keep busy during down time with additional responsibilities and perform other tasks as assigned by office manager
- To participate in CE courses
PERSONNEL REQUIREMENTS
Must be open to working weekends. We are open Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday.
Education/Experience
- High school diploma
- 1-year minimum office experience. Dental Assistant certification or clinic experience
- Performing diagnostic procedures
- Familiarity with Open dental is a plus (can be trained)
- Bilingual is a plus
- Infection control
- Creating a safe, effective environment
Interpersonal
- Strong attention to detail and ability to accurately document medical information
- Excellent chairside manner and communication skills for patient education and interaction
- Good interpersonal skills to maintain effective rapport with patients, dentists, other staff members and community
- Customer service or patient relations experience
- Ability to multitask
- Able to adapt to office policy improvements (office is constantly striving for improved customer care/service)
- Conflict resolution experience
- Team player
- Quick response/accurate data entry
- Communicate all concerns to Dentist & Office Manager
- Must be focused, personable, punctual and have the ability to handle a busy dental office
