Job Description

Directs activities of the vessel and is responsible for operation, maintenance, safety, personnel, and production and allocates resources in order to accomplish these goals.


Essential Job Functions

  • Coordinate movement of dredge to job sites and dry dockings
  • Ensure that personnel aboard the dredge are properly trained and supervised in their respective duties
  • Completes and submits daily, weekly and monthly reports to Operations Manager including personal and property accident reports
  • Prepare and submit weekly payroll time sheets
  • Requisition parts and supplies as needed to maintain inventory
  • Conduct weekly safety meetings and fire and boat drills
  • Complete Job Safety Analysis (JSA) and or Activity Hazard Analysis (AHA)
  • Responsible for maintenance and inspection of safety, firefighting and lifesaving equipment
  • Coordinate dredge operations with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers inspector and other officials who frequent the dredge during operations
  • Participate in inspections of the dredge performed by various government agencies such as United States Coast Guard (U.S.C.G), American Bureau of Shipping (ABS), Army Corps of Engineers (ACOE)
  • Research and discuss with the Project Engineer, dredging strategies to maximize production
  • Follows company and work site safety policies/procedures and commits to an "Incident and Injury Free" work environment

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Directly supervises Chief Engineer, Deck Captain, Assistant Chief Engineer and Chief Cook. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees, planning, assigning, directing work and appraising performance, disciplining employees, and addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Qualifications

  • Experience with marine or offshore platforms
  • Bachelor's degree from a Maritime Academy or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Ability to work 84-hour work week
  • Ability to live aboard vessel for full rotation
  • Ability to understand hand signals and verbal commands in English

Required Certifications or Licenses

  • TWIC - Transportation Worker Identification Credential
  • Driver's license
  • Merchant Mariner Credential (preferred)

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to tolerate rough seas, vibrations, heat, harsh weather conditions, confined spaces, and high noise levels
  • Work will frequently require individuals to push, pull, bend or stand for long periods of time, and climb ladders that have capacity limits of 300 lbs.
  • Must be able to lift or carry miscellaneous equipment, supplies and parts up to 50 lbs. unassisted
