Job Opportunity: Controller

About the Role

As the Controller, you'll play a pivotal role in managing all accounting operations, financial reporting, and financial planning. This is a unique opportunity to lead and develop a high-performing team, initially overseeing two accountants and an outsourced accounting service, with the goal of transitioning to a fully in-house department.



Key Responsibilities


  • Oversee all aspects of financial accounting, including accounts payable/receivable, general ledger management, and financial reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and evaluate new accounting standards.
  • Manage public company filings and transition from Canadian to US Securities and Exchange filings.
  • Lead annual audits and quarterly reviews with public accountants.
  • Select and implement new accounting and financial reporting software.
  • Mentor and develop a team of accounting professionals, fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.
  • Develop and enforce comprehensive financial policies, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Manage cash flow, budgeting, and forecasting in collaboration with the CFO.
  • Prepare detailed financial reports and analyses of financial performance.
  • Monitor tax compliance and coordinate with external tax firms for state, federal, and international tax returns.
  • Provide strategic financial analysis and recommendations to senior management.
  • Support special projects and initiatives, including acquisitions and new project development.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership on ad hoc presentations and analysis for the Board of Directors.


Qualifications


  • Bachelor's or master's degree in accounting.
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant accounting experience, preferably in industrial services.
  • At least 5 years in a management or supervisory role.
  • Active CPA license.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Deep understanding of accounting principles and financial regulations.
  • Proven expertise in financial planning, analysis, and reporting.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Multinational experience preferred.
