Department/College Background

The College of Health Professions (CoHP) at UTRGV is a leading institution of excellence in health and human services, education, health care, and research.

The Department of Health and Biomedical Sciences (HABS), and particularly the Biomedical Sciences program- is suited for careers in biomedical science professions, translational research, healthcare and pre-health professional education.

Minimum Qualifications:

- Ph.D., M.D.-Ph.D., or equivalent degree- Demonstrated record of successful research (high quality publications)

The Department of Health and Biomedical Sciences at UTRGV invites applications for three tenure-track faculty positions.

We seek outstanding Assistant Professor candidates who apply interdisciplinary biomedical science approaches to address the complexity of biological systems and diseases in the areas of neuroscience, immunology or microbiology. Multiple years of postdoctoral training and strong potential for developing innovative research programs that can attract and sustain extramural funding are preferred.

Ideal candidates will use innovative experimental strategies, big data analyses and/or computational methods to establish and nurture their research programs. Candidates will address complex biological systems-related problems using cross-disciplinary knowledge, methodology and collaborations that may be in fields largely intersecting with neuroscience, immunology or microbiology.

Some examples of research in these fields may include the microbiome, human biochemistry, pharmacology, cancer biology, neurodegenerative diseases, chronic diseases, infectious diseases, developmental diseases, or bioengineering in emerging fields (such as therapeutics, neuroengineering, and neurointerfaces). Basic and translational research with clear bench to bedside potential and capacity to secure NIH funding will be prioritized.

Through their teaching, research, service and mentoring, candidates will contribute to the development and advancement of the university, UTRGV core priorities, train the next generations of health professional and scientists, and contribute to basic and translational science.

Additional Information:

UTRGV is a distributed institution. As such and as assigned, the position may require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Work is performed primarily in a general office environment. This position is security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code 51.215. The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.

Texas law requires faculty members whose primary language is not English to demonstrate proficiency in English as determined by a satisfactory paper-based test score of 500 (computer-based of 173 or internet-based of 61) on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or a satisfactory test score of 6.0 on the International English Language Testing System (IELTS).
