Position Overview

We are seeking a seasoned Modernization Architect to lead critical data migration initiatives within our long-term mainframe modernization program. The role focuses on architecting and implementing the transition from IMS to DB2 databases while ensuring system stability and operational excellence. This position is crucial for executing an established modernization strategy while refining implementation details to align with ongoing release cycles.

Key Responsibilities

Lead the technical execution of IMS to DB2 database migrations within an enterprise mainframe environment

Validate and refine existing migration strategies to ensure optimal performance and data integrity

Collaborate with release management to integrate migration activities into the established release schedule

Design and implement data conversion frameworks that minimize business disruption

Develop detailed technical specifications for data migration tools and processes

Guide the phase-out of Broadcom technology while maintaining system stability

Create and maintain migration documentation, including conversion maps, validation protocols, and contingency plans

Work closely with client stakeholders to ensure migration approaches meet business requirements

Mentor team members on database migration best practices and emerging technologies

Required Qualifications

8+ years of experience in mainframe modernization, with specific focus on database migrations

Extensive hands-on experience with:

IMS Database and Transaction Manager

DB2 database design and implementation

z/OS and z/Linux environments

Broadcom mainframe products

Proven track record of successful large-scale IMS to DB2 migrations

Strong understanding of:

Database performance tuning and optimization

Data integrity and validation methodologies

Mainframe security and compliance requirements

Experience with data migration tools and utilities

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with automated testing frameworks for database migrations

Knowledge of modern DevOps practices in mainframe environments

Background in cost analysis and optimization for mainframe operations

Familiarity with hybrid cloud architectures

Relevant database certifications
