Job description
R- Description The Human Health and Performance Contract supporting the Johnson Space Center is seeking an experienced Systems Engineer for an upcoming NASA exploration project in Houston, Texas. This position provides systems engineering as NASA continues to evolve systems for exploration missions, including: Gateway, lunar surface, Mars transit, and Mars surface missions. The Systems Engineer works closely within a project engineering team to develop and integrate next generation technology into solutions that will enable astronauts and the program to safely execute missions beyond low earth orbit. In this role, the successful candidate will: define and manage system requirements, perform verification and validation activities, help define the system architecture, define system interfaces, evaluate system characteristics and performance, support integration efforts, and participate in hardware testing. In addition, duties will include participation in design reviews, risk and opportunity management, and leveraging subject matter experts to execute technical strategy. Candidates will also routinely be required to work with innovative technology, design, and processes developed internally by NASA and externally by leading technology companies and will perform trade studies and execute down select. As such, a desire to understanding the systems engineering lifecycle process is required. Applicants must have experience with technical projects. US Citizenship or US Permanent Residency and the ability to successfully obtain a Public Trust Security Clearance are required. Primary Responsibilities • Create and deliver systems engineering artifacts, such as: Concepts of Operations, requirements, traces, allocations, system architectures and design solutions, trade studies, interface definitions, verification and validation planning and execution • Perform system operations and sustaining activities. Participate in system testing.
• Collaborate and communicate effectively with stakeholders across multiple disciplines to achieve shared goals. • Mitigate risk by identifying and implementing solutions. Apply troubleshooting and problem-solving skills to achieve objectives. • Adhere to established quality and safety standards, policies and protocols.
Minimum Qualifications • Bachelor's Degree in an Engineering discipline and 5+ years of experience, including technical projects
• Knowledge and familiarity with systems engineering including: requirements, interfaces, testing, verification, and integrated performance • Experience with complex system development which includes both hardware and software configuration items • Strong interpersonal communication and collaboration skills, which are critical working within teaming environment
• Analytical with technical problem-solving skills. Process and customer focused. • Ability to thrive in a dynamic work environment and meet timelines/deliverables • Proficiency in MS Excel, Word, and PowerPoint Preferred Qualifications: • Experience in systems engineering requirements, functional decomposition and allocation, functional integration, integrated design, analysis and evaluation, verification
• Experience with Development Assurance, Certification and Safety Analysis
• Experience applying Cradle, DOORs or similar software tool across all elements of systems engineering and artifact linkage
• Experience with Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE)
• Prior experience supporting NASA Programs (e.g flight hardware development)
