Job description
Overview:
The Accounting Specialist role is a position within the Controller's Internal Reporting group. The Accounting Specialist will work closely with other members of the Finance organization, especially members of the Corporate Accounting, Tax, Treasury, Legal and Regional Shared Service teams as needed to obtain clarifications and present final output meets the intended purpose. The Accounting Specialist will be responsible for drafting accounting entries deriving from LST Projects and supporting in other requests to comply with meeting our Internal Reporting Financial department goals.
The focus of this role will be on Global matters related to Celanese's management company entities, acquisition entities, and various other consolidated workflows. The Accounting Specialist will also work with members of the Finance organization and external service providers on structuring planning and analysis for Celanese's future transactions, changes in the business or new service offerings.
Responsibilities:
Structuring Planning and Analysis
Attend bi-weekly structuring project meetings (LST) and document follow-up items/analysis from those meetings with Corporate Accounting, Tax, Treasury, Legal, Regional Shared Service teams, etc.
Prepare the accounting entries related to structuring projects for all global entities.
Coordinate the global distribution and proper recording of structuring project entries (as needed).
Coordinate with external service providers (as needed) on structuring analysis and documentation of transactions related to global positions.
Propose accounting entries for Consolidation clean-up.
Updating Accounting Org Structure documentation and visuals.
Supporting Internal and External Reporting with Analytic preparation and support.
Coordinate with internal and external auditors on gathering support, responding to inquiries, etc.
Other responsibilities as needed to support the accuracy and/or efficiency of financial reporting.
Process Improvement and Other Responsibilities
Working proactively and addressing any potential issues before month-end to avoid delaying the close process and meeting our departmental goals.
Finding efficiencies in drafting of accounting entries and delivery to internal teams.
Organizing documentation and standardize how our files are saved and shared.
Coordinate with various teams and consultant(s) to close any outstanding items as Projects are finalized.
Identify, make recommendations and lead efforts to drive process efficiencies and enhancements in various structuring workflows.
Own the drafting of accounting entries process by ensuring compliance with Celanese policies and procedures.
Coordinate with Systems team that updates to Accounting Org Structure are reflected in our EPR system.
Other projects as applicable.
Qualifications:
Knowledge and Experience
Minimum 3 years public or private accounting, required
Minimum 3 years tax experience, strongly preferred
Public company experience, strongly preferred
Education and Certifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline, required
CPA a plus
Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline, preferred
Position-Specific Technical Requirements
Advanced Excel skills and use of SAP, or similar ERP systems
Strong knowledge of basis accounting concepts
