Transportation Construction Inspector
Foster CM Group, a highly respected Construction Management firm is looking for a Transportation /Structural Inspector in the Dallas area.
Qualified candidates must have experience in inspection services for rail, transit/transportation (transit/highway/tollway/roadway and bridge) projects and a minimum of 7 years' experience working specifically on transportation project elements such as earthwork, embankment, lime treated subgrade, drainage features, bridge structures, drilled shafts, bridge deck pours, structural concrete, retaining walls, asphalt and concrete paving. Experience with tollways and TxDOT projects preferred.
Job Description:
Inspects construction and workmanship to ensure contractors build rail, highways, tollways, roadways, bridges, traffic signals, and related structures in accordance with plans and specifications; acts as consultant regarding work progress and problem resolution; may serve as the only inspector on a construction project or assist in overseeing construction inspection activities for very large and/or complex projects. Reports to a licensed professional engineer who has full authority for approval of all work. Work requires contact with contractors. Will be required to material testing of asphalt and/or concrete. Employees at this level follow standard practices that do not require frequent supervision of details.
Job Responsibilities:
Essential duties for this job include but are not limited to:
Attends pre-construction meetings and answers questions from contractors and other attendees.
Calculates payments due contractors for work completed.
Consults with Project Engineers, resident project representatives and contractors' superintendents on work progress and construction problems; reviews equipment utilization data and time/cost estimates.
Ensures contractors build transit, roadways, bridges and related highway structures in accordance with plans and specifications.
Monitors project phasing and traffic control plans and ensures compliance with approved safety standards; inspects barricades.
Observes and inspects ongoing construction work.
Documents work progress and issues arising throughout scope of project.
Perform material testing of asphalt and concrete.
Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
Work in inclement weather (hot/cold/rain)
Work non-standard hours/day, including some weekend and vacation work on occasion
Required Competencies:
Communicate effectively
Applicable inspection methods, procedures and techniques
Applicable testing methods, processes and procedures
Applicable industry safety standards, guidelines and specification codes
The Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices
Reading and interpreting applicable plans, specifications, schematics, blueprints and maps
Performing calculations
Performing calculations using algebra, trigonometry and geometry
Experience with City municipalities, TxDOT, toll authorities and/or other DOT, plans & specifications
Experience with TXDOT SiteManager, a plus
Education:
Minimum - High School Grad or Equivalent in general high school studies.
Preferred - Degree or major coursework in Construction Management, Architecture and/or Engineering, or a related field.
Required Work Experience:
7 - 10 years in construction inspections (supervisory experience not required)
Related College education or relevant technical training may be substituted for experience on year-per-year basis
Required Licenses and Certifications:

Valid Driver's License
Compensation & Schedule:
Pay Range is $45.00-$50.00 per hour
2nd Shift and paid O.T.
Company Truck provided by the company
Work Environment:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving machinery & mechanical parts, uneven ground, exposure to dust, gas or fumes, exposure to loud noise, and outside weather conditions.
Physical Requirements:
The physical requirements must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Intermittent unassisted sitting, walking, standing, bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, twisting, stooping, crawling, pushing and lifting is required. Must be able to walk and/or stand for prolonged periods of time for at least eight hours per day. The employee must frequently lift and/or move light equipment up to 50 pounds without assistance. Must be alert to equipment in the field, occasional need to work near hazardous equipment and machinery, ability to walk on uneven ground while physically maneuvering construction sites, ability to work in extreme temperatures or humidity, and potentially work at heights.
Other Requirements:
Possession of a valid state of residence driver's license with a clean driving record.
Daily travel to and from construction sites, generally within 100 miles from the home office is expected. Short term, out of town, assignments may be required. Long term, out of town, assignments may be required, with advance notice of planned dates.
May be required to work protracted and irregular hours to meet client's needs, including nights, overtime and weekends.
