Position Purpose: The VP of Finance and Operations must believe in, practice and initiate all Green Brick Partners values set forth in an acronym we call HOME. They must be Honest, Objective, Mature and Efficient in how he or she approaches their role at Green Brick Partners.

The VP of Finance and Operations has multiple primary purposes within the companies.

Provide leadership within the accounting department to implement, improve and maintain the system of internal controls as required by Sarbanes-Oxley and in order to fully participate in the complete mitigation of existing, and prevention of future, material weaknesses. Coordinate with Greenbrick Corporate Controller to enhance existing internal controls and implement new controls as required/necessary.

Participate in the developing of standard operating procedures, including documentation thereon, that improve the company's efficiency. This includes proactive identification of changes that may be required in order to ensure the company's successful adaptation to the changing internal and/or external environment (i.e. new markets, retracting markets, significant growth, changing organizational structure, new technologies, etc.).

Responsibilities:
Leadership and supervision of the Accounting Department in a manner that will produce a team environment that will motivate develop and retain quality staff members.

Development and documentation of business processes and accounting policies.

Establishment and execution of internal controls over the company's accounting and financial procedures.

Evaluation of financial and operational controls throughout the company to assure the accuracy and reliability of financial reporting (internal and external). Review recommendations with Greenbrick Corporate Controller/CFO.

Support of month-end and year-end close processes, including documentation via checklists and other evidence required for Sarbanes-Oxley.

Issuance of financial reports in form and frequency to meet the needs of internal users and Greenbrick.

Implementation of current technology solutions to improve efficiency of accounting operations and Financial Reporting.

Liaison between the company and external auditors including delegation of responsibilities and responses to potential deficiencies.

Manage the quarterly and annual budgeting process.

Monitor performance to proactively identify efficiency issues and propose solutions.

Maintain a working knowledge of all phases of operations.

Coordinate support to operations throughout the business.

Provide regular performance updates to the senior leadership team.

Supervision of Others:

Accounting and Finance team members

Authority/Budget/Decision Making/Discretion and Independent Judgment Ability:
Required to develop management reporting tools. Manages Accounting department, budget and staff as well as continual check ins with other departments to ensure they are meeting company goals/metrics.

Qualifications:
Education:

BS in Accounting, Finance or Management

CPA or MBA

Experience & Competencies:

Experience working in Newstar

Experience in accounting and/or finance function for 5+ years

Prior supervision of staff of 5+

Familiarity with Sarbanes-Oxley compliance standards and generally excepted accounting principles (GAAP)

Advanced computer skills on MS office, accounting software and databases

High attention to detail and excellent analytical skills

Experience creating and maintaining financial statements

Familiarity with general ledger functions and necessary month end/yearend closing processes and procedures

Strong time management and organizational skills

Ability to communicate effectively with staff and management, other departments, and those outside the company (vendors, customers, owners, etc.)

Strong ability to adapt to changing circumstances and develop solutions to new and unique problems/challenges

Ability to train and develop employees with respect to technical skills and interpersonal/soft skills

Proven strategic planning and budgeting experience

Demonstrated experience setting, monitoring and meeting quarterly and annual goals

Experience building and scaling teams and systems

Problem-solving skills

Physical Requirements: Ability to stand and walk for 4 hours straight or up to a full 8-hour day; sit for extended periods; kneel and bend at the waist; walk up and down stairs; walk on unlevel terrain; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. Ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision ability required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision and peripheral vision.
