In addition to regular duties associated with being a Deputy Sheriff, the candidate(s) selected will be expected to commit to a minimum of 2 years to this assignment (this commitment will not be used to limit anyone's ability to promote). Only in cases specifically approved, on a case-by- case basis, by the Chief Deputy will this minimum requirement be reduced or eliminated. The FBCSO reserves the right to remove or retain anyone in a specialized assignment at any time under its authority to make lateral transfers.

The candidate(s) selected must allow for a flexible work schedule and on-call rotation duties. Once you are selected for the interview process an assigned Lieutenant will provide assignment hours for the position. Day to day supervision will be performed by a Sergeant assigned to CIT.

Responsibilities:
Police response to crisis situations involving behavioral health issues (in the field, in medical facilities, and/or in detention facilities).

Transport of persons in a mental health crisis.

Coordinate efforts between police/ EMS first responders and Mental Health Authorities to effectively deal with persons in behavioral health crisis.

Provide assistance where appropriate to aid in preventing crisis situations.

Perform administrative duties to ensure that Team goals and reporting are fulfilled.

Act as a resource to other FBCSO personnel concerning behavioral/ mental health crisis issues.

Qualifications:
Must be in good standing as a Current FBCSO Sworn Deputy (or currently assigned sworn police officer) with at least two years as a TCOLE Certified Peace Officer.

Anyone that does not have TCOLE Certification or the above will be ineligible for the position.

A positive attitude toward assignments, fellow employees, citizens, and superior officers.

Ability to function in a team (this includes working with behavioral health professionals in determining strategies to usher individuals evidencing mental illness to appropriate care).

Ability to interact positively with people in behavioral health crisis.

Ability to work with little supervision.

Ability to identify issues and develop solutions to problems.

Ability to conduct research on topics and develop responses from that research.

Ability to organize, maintain, and retrieve information on varied topics regarding mental illness.

Successfully complete any specialized training associated with this assignment (to include Patrol Field Training) within the time frame established by the Division Commander.

In addition, the following items will be considered in evaluating the candidates not having a particular certification or ability will not preclude a candidate from the assignment, but may help in making a determination between candidates :

SALARY RANGE: $27.01-$33.76/ Hourly
