POSITION SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Foreman, the Street Utility Laborer performs a support role to the crew's other skilled workers. Street Utility Laborers will work in any division of the company - concrete, underground utilities, street and/or signals. They may operate a variety of equipment including hand and power tools, air hammers, earth tampers, small mechanical hoists, the bobcat or roller/compactor. The Street Utility Laborer cleans and prepares the job sites, digs trenches, places shoring to support the sides of excavations, cleans up rubble/debris and performs a variety of other labor related tasks. The Street Utility Laborer can work without close direction and may work as a lead man assisting the Foreman.

YOUR ROLE

• Assists the Foreman in completing day to day tasks.

• Digs, spreads, and levels concrete, dirt, and gravel, using hand tools.

• Lifts, carries, and holds materials, tools, and supplies.

• Signals operators on machinery.

• Cleans tools, equipment, materials, and work areas.

• Performs variety of routine, non-machine tasks, such as removing forms from set concrete.

• Spreads base material for sub grade or preparation for concrete pour.

• Pour and help finish concrete.

• Responsible for tying steel/rebar.

• Positions, aligns and joins pipe sections. May assist in the installation of pipe.

• Controls traffic passing near the work zone(s).

• Assist with any job duties involved in the construction and demolition of a jobsite.

• Assists with blue tops/layout.

• Always wears appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) while on the jobsite (i.e. vest, earplugs, glasses, hard hat, etc.).

• Other duties as assigned.

WHAT YOU BRING

• 2+ years of experience within the construction industry - Street Crew

• Demonstrates a high level of strength and endurance, as the position is physically demanding

• Demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness in the quality of the work

• Demonstrates the ability to complete the work in a timely manner

• Demonstrates good eye-hand coordination, balance and depth perception

• Demonstrates effective written and oral communication skills.

• Demonstrates a sense of urgency in responding to all situations.

• Demonstrates the ability to work in a number of diverse locations, as work locations change regularly, and ability to work varying schedules. Overtime and weekend work are required, as necessary.

• Demonstrates ability to collaborate and work effectively as a team.

• Demonstrates responsibility in reporting to work on a consistent and timely basis.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The Street Utility Laborer while performing the essential functions of this job is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, reach with hands and arms, lift above their head, and talk or hear. The Street Utility Laborer is also required to kneel, crouch or stoop, climb ladders, bend at the waist, squat and crawl in tight or confined spaces to perform the essential functions of the job. The Street Utility Laborer will occasionally lift, move or push up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and color vision. Ascending or descending stairs is required, and movement of uneven terrain is frequently required to carry out essential duties. The Street Utility Laborer will spend their time on the physical jobsite. This position is exposed to high temperatures, cool/cold temperatures and loud noises. Work in the construction area poses significantly greater risk due to moving construction equipment and active construction zones with trip and fall hazards.

PRE-SCREEN

Upon offer, employees will be required to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

Must be willing to travel within the State of Texas as needed, overnight or out of town stay may be required up to 2 weeks as needed.
