Job description

Duties Provides complex technical inspections to determine the operational readiness of automotive, combat vehicle, and industrial equipment parts/assemblies. Determines quality of parts and monitors material returns from maintenance or the field. Provides technical assistance and expertise on matters concerning classification inspection of material in storage. Performs the most technical inspections as required and directed by the Major Subordinate Command for acceptance of material, claims, reports of discrepancies, surveillance, and pre-shipments. Applies a wide range of methods, directly related to the quality control/quality assurance fields including statistical analysis, control sampling and quality data analysis and evaluation. Prepares and finalizes reports, conducts briefings, assists with proposed improvement actions. Develops and implements follow-up procedures to determine the effectiveness of improvement actions taken. Performs required preventive maintenance on inspection test measurement equipment. Qualifications To qualify for a Quality Assurance Specialist your resume and supporting documentation must support: A. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience that equipped you with the particular competencies to successfully perform the duties of the position and is directly in or related to this position. To qualify at the GS-09 level, applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level or equivalent under other pay systems in the Federal service, military, or private sector. Applicants must meet eligibility requirements including time-in-grade (General Schedule (GS) positions only), time-after-competitive appointment, minimum qualifications, and any other regulatory requirements by the cut-off/closing date of the announcement. Creditable specialized experience includes: Reviewing production activities and capabilities in light of contract quality requirements. Reviewing written quality or inspection procedures for adequacy and evaluating the implementation and effectiveness of quality/inspection systems, including sampling plans. Analyzing quality data to detect unsatisfactory trends or weaknesses in the quality/inspection system. Managing verification by test or inspection, using sampling inspection or intensive product inspection techniques, that products comply with requirements prior to acceptance. B. Education Substitution: Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work. Education must be from a college or university accredited by an organization approved by the U.S. Department of Education. To qualify based on education in lieu of specialized experience, you must possess: a master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or LLB. or J.D., if related. C. Combination: Combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements for grade levels GS-09 and may be computed by first determining the applicant's total qualifying experience as a percentage of the experience required for the grade level; then determining the applicant's education as a percentage of the education required for the grade level; and then adding the two percentages. The total percentages must equal at least 100 percent to qualify an applicant for that grade level. Only graduate education in excess of the amount required for the next lower grade level may be used to qualify applicants for positions at grade GS-09. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Physical Demands: Required to lift test/inspection equipment weighing up to, a maximum of 45pounds to the test/inspection shelf, a height of approximately 50 inches. In addition to work performed at a desk, the duties regularly require extended periods of standing, walking, bending, and lifting while examining products for audits/inspections/testing in a confined test area for periods up to two hours or more. Work Environment: Work may be performed in a Test Facility environment. In addition to work performed in an office with adequate heating, lighting, and ventilation, the duties require regular and/or recurring visits for extended periods to storage facilities. Must wear protective clothing in certain areas. Audits/inspections/tests may be highly sensitive items in secure locations as well as hazardous material areas. Personnel may be exposed to dangers of electrical shock, liquid and gaseous pressure, mechanical stresses of tension, compression, shear, and extreme temperatures of heat and cold. The hazards in handling mercury may be present in the performance of assigned tasks. Occasional travel may be required. Education Are you using your education to qualify?
