OPENS: 24 SEPTEMBER 2024 CLOSES: 8 OCTOBER 2024 Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center (AFNWC) is currently seeking three (3) full-time General Engineers (Non-Supervisory) to work in the Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) Systems Directorate, ICBM Futures Division, at Hill Air Force Base near Layton, Utah. These positions (020870, 020871, 020855) are NH-0801-03 which have a typical 2024 salary range of $86,962- $134,435 . These positions are not eligible for remote or full-time telework; situational-based agreements may be available at the discretion of the hiring manager. Multiple vacancies may be filled from this announcement The Next Generation Reentry Capabilities (NGRC) program will design, develop, produce, and deploy new payload system suites (reentry vehicles and/or countermeasures) and integrate them into the LGM-35A Sentinel weapon system. Key next generation payload attributes include enhancements in accuracy, lethality, and ICBM Reentry System/Reentry Vehicle (RS/RV) interoperable operations. Next Generation Reentry Vehicle (NGRV) and advanced countermeasure capabilities are based on emerging threats, Air Force priorities, and development capacity. Program activities will also include the employment of systems engineering and modular open system architectures. These positions will serve a technical role in development of cutting-edge Reentry Capabilities. As a General Engineer at NH-03 level, some of the typical duties include : Perform general engineer duties, implement system engineering concepts, and provide product expertise in support of the ICBM Futures Division Portfolio. Part of a diverse team of government employees, government support contractors, and other stakeholders in developing, integrating, and implementing technical solutions to diverse, highly complex problems, promoting teamwork, and solving broad organizational issues to ensure a flexible, low-risk approach and on-time delivery of future technologies to the Sentinel Weapon Systems. Analyze and assess contractor data to inform lead engineers and program managers. Proactively develop and present technical briefings and reports to program stakeholders, lead engineers, and program managers. Provide technical guidance on architecture governance and development activities, to include design concepts, management/oversight of simulation & modeling advancements, experimental flight tests planning and execution, radiation hardening capability development, and other future capability/technology advancement. Support technical reviews of technologies used in high temperature and hypersonic environments; perform technical reviews of contractor and National Lab deliverables to: ensure adherence to appropriate requirements, governance, and guidance; assess progress toward system architecture goals and objectives; identify risk areas; provide feedback to resolve challenges associated with architecting complex systems, to include potential design changes during Engineering and Manufacturing Development and Production phase of the Sentinel life-cycle. Continually engage with an extended and geographically dispersed team including subject matter experts from across the AFNWC, other Air Force organizations, the ICBM Integration Support Contractor, Aerospace Corporation, John Hopkins University Applied Physics Lab, Missile Defense Agency, Navy Strategic Systems Program, Navy CRANE, and others to ensure Sentinel technical activities are successfully planned, coordinated, and executed. SKILLS (not all inclusive ): Three or more years of relevant engineering experience and knowledge of professional engineering principles, logistics program management, managerial support initiative, acquisition policy and procedures, planning, programming and budgeting systems, contracting procedures and Air Force resource allocation procedures is typically preferred. Broad knowledge and experience in general engineering fields related to the development of weapons systems, with demonstrated competence in the areas of engineering principles and systems engineering, required to carry out the duties of the position is highly valued. Technical understanding of testing and modeling & simulation approaches used to verify performance is highly desired. Knowledge of systems engineering and its specialty areas, which include but are not limited to requirements development and functional decomposition, modeling & simulation, verification, validation and open systems architecture is highly preferred.
