Job Description: The Health Unit Coordinator - BLS requires the Basic Life Support certification and is used in departments where patient transport is an essential function of the role. Under the direction of nursing leadership, the Health Unit Coordinator - BLS facilitates unit organization and patient care by assisting in the coordination of patient, nursing, physician, and other health care provider office and clerical activities. Scope Must work in the O.R. Job Essentials Applies standards of and maintains sterile technique appropriately. Obtains and restocks supplies when needed. Assists with turnover of the rooms including cleaning appropriately after the case and preparing the room for the next case. Assists anesthesia when needed including turnover anesthesia equipment. Keeps department clean including keeping hallways uncluttered by returning supplies and equipment to their proper storage areas. Responsible for transporting patients to and from surgery. Transports specimens appropriately including blood and blood products. May scrub into procedures and assist with organ holds, extremity holds, camera holds, and retractor holds. May open sterile supplies. Shift Details Monday through Friday 6:30am - 3:00pm Full time benefits Minimum Qualifications Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for healthcare providers. Pass Basic Aseptic Technique class. Required within 90 days of hire or transfer into this job. Preferred Qualifications Pass Basic Aseptic Technique class. Physical Requirements: Physical Requirements Ongoing need for employee to see to utilize a wide variety of information including organizing and completing documentation and forms, accessing and entering computer information, and identify needs and emergencies. Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations. Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate computers and type information, handle documents and files, and retrieve equipment and supplies. Expected to bend, lift, and carry patient files, documents, equipment, and supplies.
