Job description
Duties MAJOR DUTIES: This is not an all-inclusive list Collects Documents and Artifacts. Obtains documents, published articles, photographs, videos and other Artifacts relating to significant historical events involving the state's National Guard and determines which records need to be researched. Collects information from correspondence, messages, memorandums, decision papers, and similar materials to document a variety of events. Conducts interviews of participants of events of historical significance, including a variety of players to present a total "picture" of an event; crosschecks data gathered to determine historical authenticity and accuracy of documented information; employs a thorough knowledge of historical records and familiarity with other agency repositories in order to research appropriate data; examines cross-references for complementary information, and if necessary acquires information determine their historical significance. Writes Summaries/Narratives/Articles. Assists the state's Adjutant General (TAG), Chief, National Guard Bureau (CNGB), and other Department of Defense (DoD) speechwriters as required; produces summaries and narratives for special research projects as assigned. Plans, prepares, and conducts Public Outreach Programs. Assists Unit Commanders/Unit Historians. Manages Storage Plan/Archives Material Performs other duties as assigned. Requirements Conditions of Employment Compatible military grade and assignment required prior to the effective date of placement. This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard. Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership. Military Rank: Enlisted, Warrant Officer, Officer Compatible Military Assignments: 46 series. Must be able to obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance. National Guard Membership is required. Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service. May be required to successfully complete a probationary period. For positions requiring the operation of motor vehicles, candidates must have a valid state driver's license. Participation in direct deposit is mandatory. Medical screening will be completed upon selection for hire. Soldiers who accept a technician position may be terminated from the Bonus and Student Loan Repayment Program (SLRP). Potential for Incentive Pay This position is eligible to be in the union: Laborers International Union of North America (LiUNA) Local 1776. Position may be telework eligible after completion of probationary period based on the needs of the organization. Qualifications Your resume must reflect in detail how the duties and responsibilities under each position you have held with each employer meets the below listed general and specialized experience required for the position. Must include beginning and ending dates of employment stated as MM/YYYY; and total hours worked per week in order to determine part time vs. full time credit. Minimum Requirements A. Degree: history; or related field that included at least 18 semester hours in history. OR B. Combination of education and experience: courses equivalent to a major in history, or a major in a related field that included at least 18 semester hours in history, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. Specialized Experience: Have experience that provided knowledge of established historical research methods and techniques, to include collection, evaluation, and analysis of historical facts. Experience conducting comprehensive evaluations and making presentations. Experience preparing reports and other written communication. Experience and skill with problem solving. Experience or knowledge of the National Guard history and operational capabilities. Education A. Degree: history; or related field that included at least 18 semester hours in history. OR B. Combination of education and experience: courses equivalent to a major in history, or a major in a related field that included at least 18 semester hours in history, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. You must provide transcripts or other documentation to support your Educational claims. To receive credit for Education, you must provide documentation of proof that you meet the Education requirements for this position. All academic degrees and coursework must be completed at a college or university that has obtained accreditation or pre-accreditation status from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. For a list of schools that meet this criteria, see OR Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the above education requirements if you can show that the foreign education is comparable to that received in an accredited educational institution in the United States.
