Peraton is seeking a Lab Manager - Emerging Technology Systems Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. The ideal candidate will become part of Peratons' Department of State (DoS) Diplomatic Security Cyber Mission (DSCM) program providing leading cyber and technology security experience to enable innovative, effective, and secure business processes.

Job Description:

The U.S. Department of State is seeking a dynamic and experienced Lab Manager to oversee the operation of an innovation lab focused on emerging technologies in the Cyber Security division. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in system administration across Linux, Windows, and cloud environments, with expertise in managing non-standard hardware and networking configurations. This lab plays a key role in evaluating, testing, and securing products that enable U.S. Embassies and Posts to operate safely and securely around the globe. You will be responsible for lifecycle management, developing and maintaining processes, vendor engagement, system patching, and vulnerability management. Additionally, you will be skilled in managing non-traditional hardware platforms and network setups, ensuring the lab can adapt to a wide range of testing environments. A strong background in cybersecurity is essential to assess and improve the security of technologies used by the State Department.

In this role, you will:

Oversee the day-to-day operations of the lab, managing infrastructure across Linux, Windows, cloud environments (Azure, AWS), and non-standard hardware platforms.

Administer and maintain flexible, non-traditional networking configurations to support various test environments, ensuring compatibility and security in unique setups.

Manage and deliver both standard and non-standard hardware and software platforms, supporting a broad range of technology evaluations.

Develop and implement comprehensive lifecycle management processes, ensuring efficient and secure operation from system evaluation to retirement.

Engage with vendors to evaluate products, manage contracts, and ensure timely delivery and support for cutting-edge hardware and software solutions.

Lead system patching and vulnerability management efforts, ensuring lab systems are up-to-date and secure against emerging threats.

Collaborate with cybersecurity experts to evaluate the security of products tested in the lab, particularly those intended for deployment at U.S. Embassies and Posts.

Provide leadership in non-standard hardware and networking, troubleshooting and managing unique configurations and setups as required by testing environments.

Ensure all lab processes are well-documented, including system health reports, product evaluations, and cybersecurity assessments.

Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends, recommending innovative tools and solutions to enhance lab capabilities.

Qualifications:
Qualifications:

Bachelors degree and 12 years of overall experience; 10 years with Masters. An additional 4 years of experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.

Possess one of the following certifications, OR be able to obtain before start date:CASP+ CE, CISSP (or Associate), CSSLP, Security+ CE, Project+

Minimum of 5 years of system administration experience, with a strong background in Linux, Windows, cloud platforms (Azure, AWS), and non-standard hardware setups.

Expertise in managing non-standard networking environments, including complex and unique configurations to support diverse testing requirements.

Experience delivering and managing hardware and software platforms for non-traditional and standard environments, adapting to unique system requirements.

Strong understanding of lifecycle management, system patching, and vulnerability management processes, with demonstrated ability to develop and enforce best practices.

Proven experience in vendor engagement, including product evaluation, contract management, and support coordination.

Cybersecurity experience, particularly in vulnerability assessments, system hardening, and product security testing.

Excellent problem-solving skills, with a flexible approach to adapting to new and non-standard technologies.

Strong documentation and technical writing skills to ensure clear communication of processes, system configurations, and security assessments.

U.S. citizenship required.

An active Secret security clearance with the ability to obtain Top Secret security clearance with SCI.

Target Salary Range:
$135,000 - $216,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
