Job description

The Manager of Safety supports the Association's engagement with Federal, State, and Local safety and motor carrier regulators, staying abreast of draft and finalized safety regulations and standards. The Manager is deeply involved in the details, understanding and communicating the intersection of industry and standards and safety regulations. Providing resources for member company executives as well as the staff responsible for safety and standards, the Manager works independently to educate and guide best practice, promoting the highest standards of safety and compliance within the recycling and waste management industry. This role involves advising on developing, implementing, and maintaining safety protocols and standards in line with OSHA and FMCSA regulations. The Manager will work closely with various member and committee stakeholders to support industry meetings, policy drafts and member companies to understand the safety and standards environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Stay updated on changes in regulations.
  • Support the development, implementation, and monitoring of safety programs to prevent workplace injuries and incidents.
  • Represent the Association on various committees and with specified regulatory bodies.
  • Ensure member companies have access to information on the consistent application of safety standards.
  • Represent the organization in industry meetings, conferences, and working groups related to safety standards.
  • Prepare and present detailed industry safety reports to Association leadership.
  • Recommend best practices and innovative solutions to enhance safety and compliance.
Location: DC-based preferred, U.S.-based travel up to 20%
  • Minimum of three years of experience in policy development.
  • Proven track record of engaging regulatory agencies.
  • Bachelor's degree in occupational safety and health, or a related field; or
  • Bachelor's degree in political science or public policy.
Certifications Preferred:
  • Experience with OSHA and US DOT Regulations and ANSI standards.
