Requisition #: 416 Job Title: Sr. Systems Engineer Location: 875 N Randolph St. Arlington, Virginia 22203 Clearance Level: Active DoD - Top Secret Required Certification(s): - CCNA Security or Security+ with CCNA certification (or able to obtain within 6 months of hire) - VMware virtualization experience (certification is preferred SUMMARY Agile Defense LLC provides all IT support, software development, Network and Systems Engineering, and Service Desk Technician support to the Air Force Office of Scientific Research (AFOSR). This is a small (250+ user) operation that plays an important role in the advancement of basic Scientific research for the US Air Force and Space Force. The specific mission of AFOSR is to identify opportunities for significant scientific advancements and breakthrough research around the world, and to bring together researchers and resources to advance revolutionary basic research for Air Force needs. Agile Defense provides the software solutions development and support, and IT operations and infrastructure (on-prem and cloud) to support that mission. JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
T his position will oversee all aspects of network operations and performance, systems administration, system integration and communications support for the entire AFOSR computing environment. They should have strong familiarity with virtualized system environments (VMWare preferred), and knowledge/experience with cloud computing concepts. They should have experience in planning, building, securing, maintaining documentation, testing and troubleshooting on premise and cloud based DoD systems. They will lead a small team of engineers and systems administrators to manage the IT environment and perform hands-on support as well. They will consult Senior IT leadership on all aspects of IT planning and architecture . Responsibilities: Installation, configuration, and maintenance: Install, configure, and maintain systems hardware and software, including physical and virtual servers, storage, databases, and applications. Troubleshooting: Research, troubleshoot, and resolve problems with systems, including permission/access management, data backups and recovery requests, identity management, end-point connectivity, and internet issues. Network Operating Systems: Install, configure, and maintain network operating systems to adhere to Department of Air Force (DAF) policies and guidelines and best practices. Virtualized Network Resources: Configure and maintain virtual servers to support internal applications, systems, and user data storage using VMWare vSphere 7/8. Wireless Network Support: Oversee the maintenance and enhancements of wireless network capabilities to support laptop and mobile device support for AF-owned IT devices. Security: Ensure that all systems and endpoints adhere to cyber security standards, baselines, and patches. Information Assurance: Ensure that all system configurations and user data is secured, backed up, recoverable in accordance with data retention and availability policies set by the local IT leadership. Status & System Reports: Run reports on system/network performance and prepare administrative status reports as required. Documentation: Write training/policy documentation for IT Support staff, and coordinate with team to ensure system documentation is complete and reviewed periodically. Architecture: Propose and implement system/network architecture to meet the business and technical requirements established by the AFOSR IT leadership, including new tools, techniques, monitoring, and compliance. Project Management: Plan, provide oversight, risk management, and support for the execution of Systems and Network engineering operations, projects and initiatives. Process Improvement: Lead process improvement initiatives. New technologies: Coordinate with Department of Air Force (DAF) and AFOSR IT leadership to determine new technologies and enhancements for company IT systems. Dept of Air Force IT Guidelines: Ensure systems, processes, and methodologies follow DAF guidelines . SUPERVISORY DUTIES • May have leadership/supervisory duties of a small Network Operations team (2-3 people) QUALIFICATIONS Required Certifications - CCNA Security or Security+ with CCNA certification (or able to obtain within 6 months of hire) - VMware virtualization experience (certification is preferred Education, Background, and Years of Experience 10+ Years Experience College Degree in related Field (Computer Science, Information Science, Cyber Security, etc). ADDITIONAL SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS Required Skills • Excellent written and verbal communication. • Knowledge and experience in implementing/support CISCO Identity Services Engine (ISE) functionality and 802.1x compliance • Strong knowledge and experience with Windows 10/11 support, Microsoft Windows Server 12/16/19 • Ability to provide hands-on support of system and network operations as needed. • Critical thinking skills. Preferred Skills • Team leadership experience • Understanding/experience in Cloud architecture, security, and implementation • Experience with Remedy or ServiceNow IT support modules • Knowledge/Training in ITIL processes • Familiarity with DoD Instructions (DODI) and Air Force Instructions (AFI) and Manuals (AFMAN) • RSA Authentication manager experience • Cisco Unified Call Manager experience • Wireless network support • SharePoint familiarity • Microsoft Teams experience WORKING CONDITIONS Environmental Conditions • Possible off-hours work to support releases and outages. General office environment with a fast-pace ops tempo. Work is generally sedentary in nature, but may require standing and walking for up to 10% of the time. The working environment is generally favorable. Lighting and temperature are adequate, and there are not hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. Work is generally performed within an office environment, with standard office equipment available. Strength Demands • Sedentary - 10 lbs. Maximum lifting, occasional lift/carry of small articles. Some occasional walking or standing may be required. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally, and all other sedentary criteria are met.
