Job description

Duties Serve as a technical translator, preparing idiomatically correct and technically accurate translations of critical, sensitive, unformatted material written by and for subject matter experts. Handle texts that discuss a wide range of complex scientific, technical, and military subjects. Complete assignments that support high cost/high impact programs. Translate material from the assigned foreign language into English and occasionally from English into the assigned foreign language. Translate materials to allow technical analysts and subject matter experts to clearly understand the various nuances of the original language texts. Perform open-source research, demonstrating expertise in assigned foreign language, culture, and subject area(s). Account for possible interpretations, nuances, assumptions, and implications of both technical terminology and grammatical and syntactic constructions. Serve as a technical editor, ensuring translations are effective both linguistically and technically. Requirements Conditions of Employment Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation. Two year trial/probationary period may be required. In accordance with Change 3 to AR 600-85, Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Program, individual must successfully pass a urinalysis screening for illegal drug use prior to appointment and periodically thereafter. Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret (TS) security clearance based on a T5 investigation/Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) with eligibility for sensitive compartmented information (SCI). All INSCOM employees may be subject to extended TDY or worldwide deployments during crisis situations to perform mission essential functions as determined by management. This position requires proficiency in the following foreign language: Mandarin Chinese (CM). Temporary Duty (TDY) travel may be required less than 25%.
