Job description

Duties Serves as a technical translator, independently preparing idiomatically correct and technically accurate translations of critical, sensitive, unformatted material on a wide range of complex scientific, technical, and military subjects. Translates difficult texts in a variety of presentation formats (documents, electronic files and video/audio tapes) prepared by and for subject matter experts on a wide range of complex scientific, technical, and military subjects. Provides quick response, oral translations in the RUSSIAN language of equipment markings and manuals to direct technical experts in the operation of complex equipment and systems. Serves as technical translator in foreign document/material exploitation, screening documents for information of potential use and abstracting or extracting key sections of documents. Performs initial screening of foreign-language source material for information of potential interest and recommends material for translation to the appropriate subject matter expert. Serves as a translation editor in technical areas, independently editing translations including translations generated by machine translation software; provides feedback as appropriate. Requirements Conditions of Employment Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation. Two year trial/probationary period may be required. In accordance with Change 3 to AR 600-85, Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Program, individual must successfully pass a urinalysis screening for illegal drug use prior to appointment and periodically thereafter. Must be willing to undergo and successfully complete a counterintelligence-scope polygraph examination with No Deception Indicated (NDI) on a pre-appointment and periodic basis. This is a Foreign Language Position and requires a Defense Language Proficiency Test score of 2/2 or higher in the RUSSIAN language. This is a Foreign Language Position and requires a Defense Language Proficiency Test score of 2/2 or higher in the RUSSIAN language.
