Job description

Description The DarkStar Group is seeking a Data Engineer with a TS/SCI + CI Poly clearance to join one of our top projects in Tysons, VA. Below is an overview of the project, as well as information on our company, our benefits, and our $25,000 referral program. THE PROJECT The DarkStar Group's team is charged with taking commercial and academic innovation high-side, in domains of Artificial Intelligence / Machine Learning (AI / ML) such as Computer Vision (Image and Video Processing), Natural Language Processing (NLP), and Audio Modeling. We also bring the best ideas, tools, and approaches in technology infrastructure (AWS, DevOps, etc.) to the IC. The tech stack used is extremely broad - anything cutting edge in the commercial market, the open source community, or the academic research community is likely involved: and if something isn't being looked at yet, you can make that happen. This effort supports ALL missions of the Intelligence Community, including cyber-related data science missions. A seamless group of contractor and customer personnel work to create innovations that supply customer groups with the data sets, models, algorithms, software, and infrastructure they need to increase their mission success. Management is hands off, gives the team the freedom to explore new approaches, and markets the best ideas and results to all the other IC customers. This project regularly needs various types of people - Data Scientists, Data / ETL Engineers, Analytic Software Engineers, Full Stack Developers, UI/UX Developers, and AWS/DevOps experts. We're particularly interested in people with any of the following experience: developing AI / ML models (neural networks, tree based algorithms, etc.);
conducting data analysis in the fields of Computer Vision, NLP, or audio signal processing;
doing data ingest and ETL into sponsor environments; or
building data-analytic software systems.
Work on this program takes place throughout the Reston/Herndon/Chantilly, VA area (we cannot support remote work) and requires a TS/SCI + Poly clearance (acceptable to this customer). The Role Maintain and execute extraction pipeline to transport data into and out of the Mission Integration Data Science Environment (MIDSE).
Supplement existing data with external datasets.
Ingest additional data from under-represented agencies.
Integrate data management and catalog capabilities.
Troubleshoot solutions to data related issues.
Current tools used for performing these tasks are developed in Python and PySpark, and comprise unstructured (e.g., eXtensible Markup Language (XML), JavaScript Object Notation (JSON and structured (e.g., Structured Query Language (SQL data formats stored in the cloud in object repositories and RDBMS systems. Source data is acquired through Secure Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTPS) requests, database connections, and delivery of standalone data files.
Required Skills Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Business Information Systems) or equivalent relevant experience.
5+ years' experience or demonstrated proficiency in one or more programming languages: Java, Python, C#, JavaScript, or Ruby (desired Python)
5+ years of experience designing and developing databases and other applications on classified IC networks.
Demonstrated extensive knowledge of developing custom scripts, procedures, queries, and user interfaces for SQL databases on classified IC networks.
Demonstrated experience developing and communicating technical specifications of databases to technical and non-technical audiences, including entity relationship diagrams, data schemas, and data systems architecture.
Extensive knowledge of available IC cloud systems and services on classified networks, preferably for those services available on the Commercial Cloud Enterprise (C2E) program.
Experience developing and maintaining interfaces between data resources (databases, data lakes, etc.) and analytics software applications (Tableau, PowerBI, Kibana, Grafana, etc.)
Desired Skills (Optional) Experience developing and communicating metrics in the IC, specifically on (a) how IC collection and analytic products are aligned to intelligence needs and questions; (b) the IC's responsiveness to requirement and changes in intelligence priorities; (c) IC's reliance on the variety of intelligence collection disciplines.
Demonstrated experience designing, testing, and managing software tools to support assessment and metrics production on large, aggregated datasets.
