Job description

SMX has an opening for a Voice/Data Communications Engineer to support a Combat Support Agency of the United States Department of Defense. The position is located at Fort Belvoir, VA. The candidate will serve as a communications expert within the unit supported, maintain all communications equipment and support training events for the military unit and civilian personnel. This position is supporting an active team, so travel within and outside the United States for short and possible long durations is required. This position requires a DoD TS/SCI security clearance which requires US citizenship for work on DoD contracts. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Provide support to the military unit for exercises, and operations in all operational and physical environments (air, land, and sea) Support requirements in planning, development, and assessment of equipment as required, meeting mission requirements in support of the military unit Provide connectivity with communication platforms: Ku/X/Ka band satellite systems, UHF/VHF radio, data systems, IP networking, mobile ad-hoc networking, mesh networking systems, tactical SATCOM, LMR systems, phone systems, and COP (Common Operating Picture) applications Maintain secure and non-secure network operations on all levels to include routers, servers, and switches Maintain tactical military and satellite communications equipment Maintain commercial radio systems, to include Motorola LMR Perform other duties as assigned Required Skills & Experience Required Clearance: TS/SCI eligibility Bachelor's degree in an information technology field and 3 years of SOF communications experience OR in lieu of a bachelor's degree, an associate's degree and 7 years of tactical military communications experience OR No degree with 9 years of tactical military communications experience Working knowledge of DISA DISN network services, architecture, configuration, certification processes and procedures, CISCO, LAN/WAN, fiber, POTS, NSA approved encryption devices, equipment suite programming, deployment, and integration Demonstrated expertise in oral and written communications to explain communication IP/RF networks and requirements 4+ years of experience coordinating with a training audience and developing realistic scenarios to facilitate training objectives 3+ years of experience in communications connectivity with communication platforms: KU/X/KA band satellite systems Harris AN/PRC-152, AN/PRC-163 and AN/PRC-167 UHF/VHF radios IP networking Mobile Ad-Hoc Networking with the Persistent Systems MPU-5 Tactical SATCOM LMR systems ATAK and WINTAK COP (Common Operational Picture) applications Able to travel on short notice, work non-standard hours and take on-call duty Completion of Core Reception and Integration training for the unit supported within 6 months of hire Able to perform duties in all weather and climate conditions and be capable of carrying loads of up to 80 pounds over uneven terrain Able to execute worldwide travel in support of training, exercises, and operational support missions Experience with Microsoft Office Desired Skills & Experience 5+ years drafting experience in AutoCAD and/or SolidWorks Electrical Experience creating inputs (diagrams, weights, weight/balance, procedures, parts lists) for ECP and TD documentation Experience designing aircraft harnesses for fixed wing narrow body aircraft or larger platforms Application Deadline: October 28, 2024 The SMX salary determination process takes into account a number of factors, including but not limited to, geographic location, Federal Government contract labor categories, relevant prior work experience, specific skills, education and certifications.
