Overview:
The Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) provides funding for the Strategies for Trauma-Affected Refugees (STAR) program, which is operated by Church World Service (CWS). This program aims to assist underserved refugees and newcomers who are eligible for ORR services. The VA STAR program focuses on promoting integration and enhancing the physical, social, emotional, and economic well-being of these individuals.

Purpose:
The Case Manager's primary focus is to collaborate with clients and their families to develop personalized plans that enhance coping skills and improve overall functioning. Resource navigation will be a key component of the role, assisting clients in accessing essential services that contribute to lasting well-being. The Case Manager will also advocate for clients' rights and needs within community services, ensuring they receive the support they require. Furthermore, the Case Manager will create and facilitate monthly psychosocial support groups, fostering community connections among clients and providing a platform for shared experiences and healing.

Responsibilities:
1. Intake and Assessment: Conduct comprehensive assessments for all STAR clients, evaluating their functioning in school, employment, family, social engagement, and basic needs.

2. Individualized Support: Develop tailored care plans with clients that focus on mental health goals and resource building. Educate families about trauma and its impact on well-being.

3. Resource Navigation: Assist clients in accessing essential resources for sustainable well-being. Advocate for clients' rights and needs within community services.

4. Ongoing support: Conduct monthly in-person or virtual visits with clients to provide support.

5. Psychosocial Support Groups: Facilitate and execute monthly psychosocial support groups to foster community connections and provide shared healing experiences.

Additional Duties:

• Monitor progress of goal completion
• Serve as a mandated reporter
• Network and develop partnerships within to educate providers on children's needs and to reinforce/increase partnerships in relevant areas.
• Write case notes, enter data, and complete reports in a time sensitive manner.
• Participate in supervision, team meetings and trainings as assigned.
• Occasional evening or weekend assignments

Qualifications:
Education:

Bachelor's degree in social work or an equivalent human service degree preferred.

Experience:

3 years of professional experience required preferably in resettlement or providing human service.

Prior experience providing case management required

Lived experience as a refugee or immigrant preferred

Skills

Strong written and verbal communication skills, with proficiency in MS Office and familiarity with data-tracking systems.

Ability to work collaboratively with other community professionals and organizations

Ability to establish trust and build rapport with clients

Ability to maintain calm and use sound judgment in high stress situations

Demonstrated success in effective communication across diverse backgrounds, including race, gender, ethnicity, language, religion, and age.

Fluency in English and a secondary language (Spanish preferred)

Special Requirements:
Valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle with current insurance.

Successfully pass criminal background check
