Job Title: Engineer - Chief Organization: Central Plant Location: Northern Virginia Job Status: Hourly Job Code: U5H1 Effective Date: July 2021 JOB FUNCTION: Working supervisor - oversee operation and maintenance of all utility systems. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: • Supervise all functions of the plant operations and personnel. • Responsible for all water treatment testing and reporting. • Respond to emergencies site wide, performing all tasks necessary for the protection of property and personnel. • Set-up and timely post all schedules and changes for all assigned personnel. • Periodically review logs and instruct Engineer - Watch Chief of any necessary changes or corrections. • Develop and maintain site wide utility switching procedure. • Direct and coordinate all major utility repair, shutdown, and restart. • Perform other job-related work as required. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: • Must possess a Maryland Grade I Stationery Engineer License, or DC 3rd steam boiler engineer license or equivalent. • Must possess universal CFC certification. • Able to read and interpret blueprints. • Working knowledge of piping systems • Ability to comprehend written and oral instructions. • Must work scheduled rotational shifts, including days, evenings, nights, holidays, and weekends. • Be capable, as required to stand watches for personnel under their supervision. • Thorough knowledge of mechanical systems and electricity including equipment and testing instrumentation. • Knowledge of and experience with valves, traps, strainers, and refrigeration systems. EXPERIENCE: • Eight years' experience in commercial/industrial operations. • Minimum of six years' experience in the operation of a major plant and three years supervising staff in a major physical plant - (100,000 lb./hr. or greater total steam capacity) and (10,000 t/hr. or greater total chiller capacity). • Two years' experience in generator operations. EDUCATION High school, technical school, apprenticeship, trade school graduate or equivalent required. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: • Working knowledge of HVAC systems. • Ability to write correspondence. • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. • Have basic computer skills. SECURITY: Must be a U.S. Citizen, have obtained and able to maintain Top Secret Security Clearance. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Incumbents may work in conditions that require operating industrial machinery/power tools and motor vehicles. Additionally, incumbents may participate in work that requires walking, bending, squatting, and carrying materials throughout the facility. Workplace conditions necessitate following strict safety guidelines and the use of Personal Protective Equipment. Work tasks requiring the incumbent to lift weight more than 50 pounds requires two or more persons.
