Transportation Manager

Cornerstone Recruiting is looking for a experienced Transportation Manager with extensive DOT regulatory knowledge, heavy equipment transport and dump truck operations experience, and excellent leadership skills. The Transportation Manager is part of a collaborative leadership team dedicated to directing resources, managing assets, fostering trade partner relationships, and providing first class support and guidance to our people. Successful candidates will demonstrate a passion for team development, a record of promoting safe operations, and the ability to manage multiple high priority operations simultaneously across a large, and geographically dispersed, operational footprint.

Transportation Manager Responsibilities

Lead all dump truck, heavy equipment transport, and construction equipment fueling operations

Ensure compliance with DOT and FMCSA regulatory requirements

Manage the daily hours of service for drivers

Monitor driver qualifications and training

Oversee accuracy and timeliness of dispatch schedules

Reconcile schedule to project team truck, movement, and fuel requests

Ensure all hauling permits are on hand and valid

Monitor truck maintenance - both scheduled and unscheduled

Utilize GPS hardware/software to assess and monitor truck performance

Develop and maintain relationships with brokers, owner operators and trade partners

Drive financial success across all department operations - monitors and is accountable for the P&L

Review and approve all invoices associated with the transportation department

Monitor and approve all department purchase card transactions

Lead all personnel administrative actions i.e., hiring, termination, layoff, attendance, performance coaching, and disciplinary action

Ensure new drivers are trained, coached, and monitored

Establish environment of coaching and performance improvement through driver engagement

Develop leadership skills and abilities across the transportation management team

Serve as the escalation point for day-to-day operational issues - drive resolution

Drive a culture of safety and individual accountability - embody "Home Safe Tonight"

Transportation Manager Basic Qualifications:

10+ years experience managing transportation assets - preferably in support of construction, paving and milling operations

Understanding of the operational and financial components associated with a large transportation operation

4+ years leading, developing and motivating teams

Experience managing salaried and hourly employees

Skilled at developing and negotiating relationships with brokers and trade partners

Strong work ethic, leadership, and the ability to work in a fast-paced and operationally fluid environment

Ability to work well with others
