Job description

Duties As a SECURITY SPECIALIST at the GS-0080-11 some of your typical work assignments may include: Serve as Special Security Representative (SSR) demonstrating knowledge of Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) administrative security, to include information security, information systems security, Sensitive Compartmented Information Facilities (SCIF) security, technical security, personnel security, industrial security, and special activities. Demonstrate knowledge of required security training concepts, programs, procedures, and practices to assist managers in establishing and operating internal security programs. Develop, analyze, and evaluate Special Security/SCI security programs to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, command policies, and improve internal operating procedures. Establish effective professional working relationships with coworkers and customers, contributing to a cooperative working environment and successful accomplishment of the mission. Requirements Conditions of Employment This is a Mission Essential (ME) position performing a Mission Critical Function (MCF) which must continue uninterrupted after the occurrence of an emergency and continued through full resumption of all functions Must be a U.S. citizen Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service Resume and supporting documents (See How To Apply) Suitable for Federal employment, determined by a background investigation May be required to successfully complete a probationary period Work Schedule: Full Time Overtime: Occasionally Tour of Duty: Flexible Recruitment Incentives: May be authorized Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA): Exempt Financial Disclosure: Not Required Telework Eligibility: This position is telework eligible at management discretion Travel and relocation expenses, if approved, will be paid IAW JTR and AFMAN 36-606 The incumbent of this position must be able to obtain and maintain a Special Sensitive (Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information) security clearance This position is designated by the Air Force as a Test Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Testing Program This position is designated as a key position. Duties of this position are essential to the accomplishment of wartime/contingency operations Department of Defense Security Fundamentals Professional Certification, and Security Asset Protection Professional Certification conferrals are required within 2 years of the established employee EOD to this position. Qualifications You may qualify at the GS-11, if you fulfill the following qualifications: A. One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service: Providing advice on Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) security regulations, policies, and procedures. Conducting SCI indoctrinations of unit personnel, preparing associated documentation, and maintaining individual security files for unit personnel. Providing and implementing program guidance, training and direction to subordinate level organizations or activities, and non-security managers on personnel security issues. OR B. You have a PH.D. or equivalent doctoral degree OR 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree OR LL.M., if related. OR C. You have some specialized experience as described in A, but less than one year; and you have more than one year but less than two years of education as described in B. You have computed the percentage of the requirements that you meet, and the total is at least 100%. (To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of graduate education beyond the first year by 18. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify.) Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. If you cannot obtain your graduate school's definition of one year of graduate study, 18 semester hours (or 27 quarter hours) should be considered as satisfying the requirement for one year of full-time graduate study.
