Job Summary:

The Commercial Loan Assistant provides support to the Commercial Relationship Manager(s) (RM) and their large portfolio(s.) Key responsibilities are managing loans from set-up to post-closing and responding to customer service requests. The Loan Assistant is also responsible for a variety of administrative activities assisting all members of the Commercial Lending team.

Responsibilities:
Essential duties and Responsibilities -

Responsible for timely and accurate production of all types of commercial and business loans, including but not limited to large complex credits, builder lines, A&D, commercial construction and participations. This Commercial Loan Assistant would be assigned to a very active RM with a large portfolio of commercial construction, A&D and builder line credits.

Manage the workflow process to ensure loans move through the pipeline efficiently, by assisting the RM with loan requests, submissions and processing

Process payments for both purchased and sold participation loans, as well as draws if applicable

Acts as liaison between customers, RM, Loan Processing and outside vendors (settlement agents, insurance companies, etc.) as needed, for ongoing loan matters. Must also be able to maintain effective relationships with these individuals on an ongoing basis

Works efficiently to clear loan exceptions on all closed loans, assisting the RM with maturities, past due loans, evidence of insurance and financial tracking, as well as tracking of A&D and builder line collateral, and certificates of satisfaction

Acquires fluent knowledge of the Bank's processing systems for both Business Lending and Commercial Lending

Process line of credit, commercial construction, builder line and A&D draw requests in accordance with the Bank's approved policy and procedures

Obtain and review all supporting documentation for loans prior to closing, including but not limited to:

Financial reporting requirements and adherence to loan policy

Organizational documents for all borrower types to ensure proper borrower
authorization

Lien searches and Real Estate title documents to ensure the bank's ability to perfect
their lien position

Obtaining various insurance types to ensure the bank's collateral is protected

Environmental due diligence documents to ensure policy requirements are met

Initiates appraisal process through Appraisal management

Flood determinations and applicable flood insurance to ensure compliance with
federal flood regulations

Answers phone calls and assists loan officers, other bank employees, and customers with various issues

Strives to fill in for other members of the team, when necessary, by attempting to find answers to the clients' questions by coordinating with the RM(s) and Processor(s)

Fulfills all necessary training

Runs reports as needed

Performs Notary acts as required

Special projects/duties as assigned

Qualifications:
Knowledge:

See table below for minimum years of required loan processing and documentation experience in business or commercial banking environment.

Experience Required

3 - 5 years

A demonstrated understanding of lending principles and the loan cycle is preferred.

Skills:

Demonstrated organizational skills and detail-orientation is required. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are required. Demonstrated PC skills are required; a level of proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook) and navigating the internet is necessary to be successful in this role. Experience with typical office equipment is necessary.

Abilities:

Read and understand a variety of reports, spreadsheets, and forms; effectively communicate information clearly through all media channels; interact effectively with clients and Bank employees at all levels; handle several tasks simultaneously and to work under time limits.

Education:

High School diploma or equivalent is required. AIB or college courses strongly preferred. An associate or bachelor's degree is desired.

Travel required as needed to our Operations Center located in Toano, VA.

Physical demands:

Employee may experience the following physical demands for extended periods of time: view computer monitors, keyboarding, sitting, motion of fingers/hands/wrists, and standing/walking; occasional lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling up to 20 pounds.

Work Environment:

Work is performed in an operational office environment.
