Job description

Responsibilities:
This position is responsible for planing, directing, and implements organizational Healthy, Safety, and Environmental programs to ensure a safe, healthy, and incident & injury-free work environment for the Virginia region.

Essential Duties:

Plans and implements safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal OSHA, DOT and VDOT rules and regulations.

Conducts safety inspections and audits at Company facilities and projects to identify existing and potential hazards. Determines corrective or preventative measures where indicated, and follows up to ensure measures have been implemented.

Leads the investigation of accidents and injuries and cooperates in the preparation of material and evidence for organizational use in hearings, lawsuits, and insurance investigations.

Compiles and submits incident reports required by regulatory agencies.

Oversees the administration of workers' compensation program, including working with the insurance carrier and athletic trainers to reduce employee injuries.

Ensures proper Subcontractor Safety management.

Maintains and monitors Safety Planning which includes Job Hazard Analysis and risk assessments.

Ensures HSE staff is trained and prepared to support post-accident drug testing.

Monitor safety performance of region and provide updates to project teams and regional management.

Lead incident investigations, documentation, and root cause analysis.

Administer company HASP at the regional level.

Develop, monitor, and maintain Home Safe Tonight safety culture within region.

Provide coaching and leadership to all regional HSE staff.

Implements and monitors back-to-work program, with region.

Coordinates Safety compliance training within region.

Provide Health and Safety presentations to all levels of employees within region.

Prepares and arranges safety exhibits and material for display, promotional work, industry conference, college recruiting, and exhibitions.

Represents the organization in community or industry safety groups and programs.

Attend job/college fairs as needed to assist in recruiting efforts for interns; interviews HSE candidates.

Attends all progress meeting or safety meetings as requested or deemed necessary.

Maintains regional corporate safety files and records.

Keep current on all new legislative or company policy changes and communication those changes to region.

Performs other duties as required or assigned.

Qualifications:
HSE/Safety related Bachelor's degree and minimum 10 years of experience in a HSE/Safety role; OR no degree with 15+ years of experience in a Heavy Civil construction supervisor/manager role.

Experience with HSE responsibilities on multiple projects or $25mil+ in revenue preferred.

Valid driver's license required.

HSE/Safety certification a plus.

Must be able to travel overnight or long distances on occasion.

Must possess a willingness to learn and adapt to change.

Ability to work under deadlines and pressure.

Must possess excellent communication (verbal/written) & time management skills.

Must be knowledgeable of OSHA, MSHA, DOT regulations.

Must be detail oriented.
