Job description

Overview:
As a Business Credit Analyst, you will be primarily responsible for analyzing Business Lending credit requests. These are defined as business purpose loans with total credit exposure of $2.0MM or less. You will use sound and consistent underwriting and management of business loan risk while balancing loan growth, credit quality, ensuring all Bank policies, procedures, and action steps are followed, and government compliance needs are met, in order to analyze information to reach credit decisions regarding loan approval, structure, and other items as they arise. In addition, you will ensure that all customers, both internal and external, receive the best service possible.

Responsibilities:
Underwriting and Analysis (60%):

Underwrites business loan requests utilizing the loan origination software.

Analyze financial and non-financial information that is required for prudent loan approval and risk management practices.

Analyze Borrower, Guarantor, Related Entity financial statements.

Perform complete and accurate cash flow analysis, to include Debt Service Coverage Ratios.

Analyze Collateral securing the loan request, including appraisal ordering if needed.

Develops appropriate questions from credit analysis and work with the Relationship Manager(s) to ensure complete underwriting.

Create complete and accurate credit memo.

Structures and prices loans to match loan needs of the customer and ensure Bank's profit and risk is desirable, in accordance with the Bank's product offerings.

Monitors all loan approvals for compliance purposes, keeping current with regulatory updates and changes.

Resolves any issues that arise during the underwriting process.

Adheres to all Bank policies and procedures as well as complying with all bank regulations.

Administrative and Reporting (10%):

Assists with loan pipeline activity reporting on a monthly or quarterly basis.

Work with the Relationship Manager(s) for loan renewals/maturities.

Special Projects/Other (30%):

Act as a Credit Services contact for Relationship Managers with questions about the Bank's loan products and Loan Policy.

Recommend changes and/or improvements to the Bank's Loan Policy and general processes as needed.

Trains Relationship Managers on Business Lending product and process, regularly.

Other Duties:

Assist with special projects and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Knowledge:

See below for minimum years of experience in financial services, preferably experience in underwriting consumer, real estate, and/or business loans is preferred.

Business Credit Analyst I: 0-2 years

Business Credit Analyst II: 3-4 years

Business Credit Analyst III: 4 or more years

A demonstrated understanding of the principles of lending is required; experience and a level of proficiency with Microsoft Office is preferred, specifically Word, Office, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

Skills:

Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational, math, and PC skills are required. Must possess balance sheet and income statement analysis skills and understand cash flow analysis. Strong rapport-building, decision-making, and problem-solving skills are essential. Must possess a strong attention to detail.

Abilities:

Able to communicate effectively with people at all levels. Must be an excellent listener and able to use sound, independent judgment while interacting with a diverse group of constituents with multiple perspectives. Read and understand a variety of reports, spreadsheets, and forms. Handle several simultaneous tasks and work under time limits.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience is required, preferably in finance, economics, or a related field. Some AIB classes such as Principles of Banking, Consumer Lending, and Appraisals are desired. A combination of experience and education will be considered.

Travel:

The department's primary work location will be at the Bank's Stonehouse Operating Center. Must be able to travel to the Downtown Richmond Financial Center as required.

Physical Demands:

Employee may experience the following physical demands for extended periods of time: view computer monitors, keyboarding, sitting, motion of fingers/hands/wrists, and standing/walking.

Work Environment:

Work is performed in an operational office environment.
