Job Description Marine Electrician/Electrical Technician Overview The GBS Group, an engineering services and consulting firm, is seeking a Marine Electrician/Electrical Technician to support our growing technology business in Virginia Beach, VA. The GBS Group designs and delivers high technology services and solutions to most advanced naval and maritime ships, as well as to special purpose platforms and assets. Our Headquarters is located within 10 miles of the Virginia Beach resort area and downtown Norfolk's Waterside District and includes a 24x7 Operational Support Center monitoring all client installations in North America as well as a world class lab with configurations of all client hardware and software systems. Responsibilities include but are not limited to Work with Government Service personnel and engineers from different companies supporting shipboard electrical systems troubleshooting and installations.
Inspect and survey existing ships.
Read and interpret original design drawings, technical manuals, and equipment specifications for incorporation into new designs.
Identify and solve problems as related to ship systems design and equipment installation.
Installations and modifications aboard government and commercial ships such as pre-fabrication and installation of consoles, panels, and various electrical equipment.
Qualifications Candidates must possess the following professional experience and qualifications. 3-5 years' experience and knowledge of ship board electrical installations, electrical systems, networks, and electro-mechanical systems. Able to coordinate and manage waterfront teams.
Familiarity with 600V 60 HZ, 450V 60 HZ, 120V 60 HZ, 120V 400 HZ and 450V 400 HZ Systems as well as AC to DC transformer systems.
Perform maintenance, testing, and troubleshooting of high voltage equipment, including energized and de-energized. Install new systems and make modifications to existing systems.
Work on or aboard US Navy, US Coast Guard or MSC shipboard electrical systems to include electrical power generation and distribution, alarms, and command and control systems.
Familiar with use of multi-meters, voltmeters, voltage testers, ammeters, ohmmeters, and other electrical testing tools and devices.
Commitment to safety and quality and be familiar with "tag out" safety protocols and lock out devices.
Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance and passport.
Physical and Mental Requirements Must be able to see color to discern color-coded wiring.
Prolonged periods standing, kneeling, bending, and climbing ladders or scaffolding.
Must be physically capable of pulling wires and cables through conduits.
Must wear safety gear, such as goggles and gloves, hard hats, etc. as required
Must be able to access and navigate all areas of the (Naval/ Maritime) facility and/or ship
Ability to work under stress and meet deadlines
