Job description

Duties You will evaluate utility conditions needing repair and plan repair evolutions. You will perform pipe and structural welding applications, operate oxyacetylene and electric arc welding apparatus in fabricating parts, pipefitting, structural applications, preheating, and post-heat treatment, as needed. You will use special techniques to perform full penetration welds within prescribed tolerances that will pass testing requirements. You will control metals and techniques to prevent distortion and meet weld dimensions, using fillet gages, etc. You will set up purges and operate purge equipment, control critical temperatures and operate portable grinding and finishing equipment. You will use established safety practices, rules, regulations, and procedures to maintain safe and clean work environments, including the proper use of PPE. You will use and maintain tools, including computer controlled systems, specialized test equipment, and related testing devices. You will maintain records and document your actions. Requirements Conditions of Employment Must be a US Citizen. Must be determined suitable for federal employment. Must participate in the direct deposit pay program. You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift. This position may require occasional travel from normal duty station. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft. You will be required to obtain and maintain current certification per perform various types of welding work. Welding proficiency is verified by destructive and non-destructive testing of welds. This position may be required to work overtime. Call back and emergency overtime are regular requirements of this position. Qualifications Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. The Screen-out Element for this position is: The ability to perform common tasks including performing gas welding processes at the journey level. You work under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. For WG-11, this job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. The Screen-out Element for this position is: Performing some tasks including working to written weld specifications and technical work documents, consistently producing welds that meet acceptance standards of NDT, strength, and pressure testing. I work under supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who reviews my work for completion.
