Job description

Duties Conducts an ongoing variety of fitness classes and sets up individual fitness programs for patrons on various equipment and ensuring that the patrons fully understand how to safely exercise and operate all equipment. Applies knowledge of fitness techniques and programs to provide a variety of ongoing fitness programs and instructions such as introduction to fitness lifestyle changes, basic muscular toning, circuit training, aerobic conditioning training, etc. for purpose of providing patrons with a broader understanding and application of fitness, skills and abilities. Assist in designing individualized exercise programs for patrons based on their goals or current fitness status by performing fitness profile testing (Aerobic capacity, blood pressure, heart rate and body composition). Screen participant for cardiovascular risk factors prior to exercise via a comprehensive medical history and health habits questionnaire. Enforce all rules and regulations of the fitness center. Attend fitness meetings, workshops, and seminars presented by the Fitness Manager and other outside organizations. Incumbent must exercise tact, good manners and courtesy when serving and assisting customers. Perform other duties as assigned. Provides fitness training and programming to groups of various sizes. Provides instruction on the proper implementation and maintenance of conditioning and training programs for aerobic fitness, muscular fitness, body composition, and flexibility training. Conducts fitness testing, which includes measuring aerobic capacity, body composition, muscular strength, flexibility, muscular endurance, and blood pressure. Assists patrons on the fitness floor by providing training tips in order to prevent unsafe or ineffective exercise techniques. General (includes but not limited to): Provides certified personal training services to all eligible patrons. Instructs patrons in the proper use of all equipment for training and self -monitored progress by preparing written instructions and procedures for the performance of work, use of equipment, safety and well-being of all involved. Assists customers by providing general fitness information, instruction on proper use of fitness equipment and program information. Ensures fitness spaces and equipment are clean and maintained. Performs basic equipment maintenance. Stays current with latest fitness programming ideas to increase attendance and improve customer satisfaction. A qualified candidate possess the following: A Degree in Exercise Physiology, Exercise Science, Sports Medicine or a Health related field is desired, or two-years' experience within the health/fitness field and a high school diploma. Employees must have current certification in each of the following when placed in the position: Personal training, Group exercise instructor, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and First Aid Certification. Must include proof of certifications on application to ensure minimum qualifications for this position are met Instructional materials to prepare for the ACE of ACSM will be provided by Fleet & Family Readiness Program to assist in meeting this requirement for continued employment. Knowledge gained through extensive and relevant experience which enable the incumbent to competently and independently plan, development and conduct a diversified fitness program through proper application of fitness principles, concepts, and techniques that relate to the specific needs of the patrons and the interest of the military community at several dispersed locations is required. Possess computer skills in order to operate Microsoft Office, Work, Excel, and Powerpoint. Education A Degree in Exercise Physiology, Exercise Science, Sports Medicine or a Health-related field is desired, or two-years' experience within the health/fitness field and a high school diploma.
