Job description

The Plant Engineering organization provides engineering oversight, program support, and qualified staff to support the Hanford Tank Waste Treatment and Immobilization Plant (WTP) mission. Near term support is provided by the Waste Treatment Completion Company (WTCC). The mission includes safely storing, treating, and immobilizing the highly hazardous radiological wastes created during prior periods of nuclear processing at the Hanford Reservation. The Plant Engineering organization and programs provide the framework for executing engineering work. Plant Engineering personnel are responsible for the technical adequacy of Plant Engineering products and decisions. Within the Plant Engineering organization, the Zone Teams are the front-line interface with Engineering, Maintenance, Facility Management, and Plant Management, and operate to provide a consistent approach to engineering activities in the WTP facilities. As a Plant Engineering Specialist within the Zone Team, you will play a pivotal role in supporting, coordinating, and implementing engineering activities within the assigned zone for Balance of Facilities (BOF) and the Analytical Laboratory (LAB). This dynamic position involves various tasks utilizing engineering, regulatory, and codes and standards related to equipment and system operations. The role requires strong planning and organizational skills, the ability to provide detailed technical advice, and proficiency in producing comprehensive documentation. This position may require work on a rotating dayshift (4 on/ 4 off). Typical activities for Zone Team members include the following: Work with Engineering, Maintenance, and Facility and Plant Management to prioritize and complete maintenance and engineering work activities Progressing and coordinating Plant Engineering production control schedule priorities Deconflicting issues within the assigned zone Developing system/component knowledge to become a subject matter expert Providing oversight and technical guidance in development and performance of work within the zone Troubleshooting in the field as needed Exhibiting ownership, track, and report status daily, and help improve processes Maintenance and planning coordination within the assigned zone including preventative and corrective maintenance Refining/optimizing the preventative maintenance and corrective maintenance strategies Soliciting technical support from System Engineers or other technical resources as needed This position shall be performed under the day-to-day direction, control, and supervision of WTCC MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES/TASKS Apply due diligence in resolving Plant Engineering issues. Assumes increasing independence in work performance and results delivery. Coordinate and control assigned aspects of the plant engineering program in order to meet agreed to departmental objectives. Ensures the safe and effective introduction of new process improvement and technologies. Ensures work output follows established procedures, guides, and instructions. Identifies strategies to facilitate and implement Plant Engineering programs. Informs Management as to the status of assignment(s) with respect to schedule, budgets, and delays. Know, understand, and apply the principles of the Integrated Safety Management System Manages Plant Engineering program elements, as assigned. Mentors staff and provides guidance on task execution and quality of deliverables. Organizes training records and prepares training qualification packages. Performs technical writer responsibilities. Performs work in compliance with a specific format or standard. Recommends revisions in scope, format, and content. Provides technical assistance and process guidance to Plant Engineering staff. Resolves or facilitates resolution of Condition Report corrective actions. Self-manages work and provides results with little management oversight. Strives for continual enhancement of technical knowledge and capabilities. Support the Waste Treatment Plant Nuclear Safety Quality Culture by emphasizing the values of safety and quality in the performance of work. Undertake tasks as assigned (competence permitting) This job description is not intended to include every duty, task, or instruction for which an employee is responsible. REQUIREMENTS/SPECIFICATIONS Education: Associate (or higher) Degree related to science, technology, engineering, mathematics, computer/software science, or environment management or, Equivalent competency through related education or specific training and experience in an area of expertise that support Plant Engineering. Experience: Ten (10) years - Background consistent with education requirements Candidate must have excellent written and verbal communication skills Candidate must be proficient in Microsoft application suite (e.g., Word, Excel, Access, Visio, PowerPoint, etc.) Preferred Experience: Experience in processing facilities, DOE facilities, or DOD facilities Knowledge of project/Hanford specific environmental compliance requirements. Experience with mechanical equipment, as well as instrumentation and controls (including measuring and test equipment) associated with nuclear processes Experience with preventative and corrective maintenance programs Experience with, or working knowledge of, Champs/CMMS, Advanced Work Packaging and associated applications, automation tools, and work practices Experience with national consensus codes and standards PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS (EFNM) Exposed Field Non-Manual- Performs desk work, including writing, computer workstation processes, and telephone operation. Arranges for and/or performs presentations, oral reports, planning meetings, and other formal and informal contacts, requiring long periods of sitting. Oversees field activities through inspections, testing and equipment operations, which requires walking, standing, bending, and turning along with wearing of personal protective equipment. Occasional loading, transport, and unloading of tools and/or supplies specific to an activity. This position is located at the Construction Site (22 miles north of Richland) This position may require work on a rotating dayshift schedule (4 days on/4 days off). Must be able to work in the United States without Sponsorship Must be able to obtain a Department of Energy (DOE) badge for access to the Hanford site. COMPENSATION & BENEFITS HIRING SALARY RANGE: $99,193.03 - $154,255.09 (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant internal equity, and alignment with market data.)
