Job description

The Plant Engineering organization provides engineering oversight, program support, and qualified staff to support the Hanford Tank Waste Treatment and Immobilization Plant (WTP) mission. Near term support is provided by the Waste Treatment Completion Company (WTCC). The mission includes safely storing, treating, and immobilizing the highly hazardous radiological wastes created during prior periods of nuclear processing at the Hanford Reservation. The Plant Engineering organization and programs provide the framework for executing engineering work. Plant Engineering personnel are responsible for the technical adequacy of Plant Engineering products and decisions. The Responsible Engineering Supervisor is responsible for supporting all aspects of the Responsible Engineering program. This program encompasses both material requisitions and technical services subcontracts. The Responsible Engineering team owns the technical and quality requirements for material requisitions which includes spare, replacement, and consumable item procurement, commercial grade dedication as appropriate, obsolescence management, and management of suspect/counterfeit items. The team works closely with the procurement organization and vendors to allow for delivery of components to support continued plant operations The Responsible Engineering team also owns the technical and quality requirements for technical services subcontracts. The team works closely with the subcontracts organization, as well as with the subcontractors for the execution of technical services subcontracts which support plant operations. This position shall be performed under the day-to-day direction, control, and supervision of WTCC MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES/TASKS Supervise a diverse group of Plant Engineers to achieve multiple objectives Lead the achievement of organizational goals and objectives within the assigned area of responsibility Integrate daily engineering activities with other Plant Engineering disciplines, maintenance, and operations Integrate organizational values and vision related to quality and safety Capitalize on opportunities for positive and productive relationships with peers both within and external to Plant Engineering Review for accuracy written technical reports on assigned activities Review for accuracy written management procedures Ensure the health and safety of self and staff by implementing the principles of Integrated Safety Management System Ensure that personal conduct of work is consistent with nuclear safety and quality culture expectations Complete required training and maintain qualifications associated with assignments Implement Plant Engineering program elements as assigned Develop, review, concur with and/or assess engineering technical documents, management control procedures, technical procedures, or guides Assess facilities, systems, and/or processes anomalies or degraded conditions Resolve condition report issues or other similar discrepancies as assigned Complete required training and maintain qualifications associated with assignments Support the Waste Treatment Plant Nuclear Safety Quality Culture by emphasizing the values of safety and quality in the performance of work to protect self, others, and the environment This job description is not intended to include every duty, task, or instruction for which an employee is responsible. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES Coordinate and lead the work of engineering staff assigned to the group Ensure assigned staff have sufficient resources to complete assignments Ensure assigned staff obtain and maintain qualifications necessary to perform their tasks Monitor assigned staff performance and ensure appropriate communication to management is provided Provide training to assigned staff (as needed) REQUIREMENTS/SPECIFICATIONS Education: Bachelor of Science degree (or equivalent education) in an appropriate engineering discipline or related science from a four-year accredited college or university Experience: Minimum of twelve years of professional experience with at least three years of experience directing the work of others as either a lead or supervisor. Candidate must have excellent written and verbal communication skills Candidate must be proficient in Microsoft application suite (e.g., Word, Excel, Access, Visio, PowerPoint, etc.) Preferred Experience: Experience in processing facilities, DOE facilities, or DOD facilities Experience with national consensus codes and standards Project management Capability to manage multiple assignments Planning and scheduling of engineering tasks as well as delegation of assignments Project change control and risk management process PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS (EFNM) Exposed Field Non-Manual Performs desk work, including writing, computer workstation processes, and telephone operation. Arranges for and/or performs presentations, oral reports, planning meetings, and other formal and informal contacts, requiring long periods of sitting. Oversees field activities through inspections, testing and equipment operations, which requires walking, standing, bending, and turning along with wearing of personal protective equipment. Occasional loading, transport, and unloading of tools and/or supplies specific to an activity. This position is located at the Construction Site (22 miles north of Richland) and works a 4 x 10 schedule, M-Th, 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Must be able to work in the United States without Sponsorship Must be able to obtain a Department of Energy (DOE) badge for access to the Hanford site. COMPENSATION & BENEFITS HIRING SALARY RANGE: $128,402.60 - $206,078.53 (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant internal equity, and alignment with market data.)
