Resource CNA/MT/US: This 0.9FTE/Full-time position is scheduled to work 12-HR night shifts variable days of the week and is AFSCME represented.
Compensation: Non-exempt, $22.99/HR-$35.80/HR

Job Summary:
Provides direct and indirect care to patients and their families as directed by the House Supervisor. Under the supervision of a house supervisor, the incumbent provides clerical and administrative assistance as needed to support and maintain effective operations on different hospital units. Due to the support of different units, typical workday requires flexibility and ability to embrace change. Some daily duties may include assisting patients with activities of daily living, maintaining a safe environment of care, preparing patients for surgery, close observation of confused patients, transportation, maintenance of equipment and supplies, clerical tasks, and customer service.

Job Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

Assists RNs and other healthcare providers in implementing the plan of care by performing common procedures and tasks as directed and documenting appropriately. Performs patient care duties within the nursing assistant scope of practice, under the direction and supervision of a Registered Nurse.
Observes, documents, and appropriately reports changes in patient activity and/or symptoms such as vital signs, respiration, discomfort, intake, output, weight, and bleeding.
For assignments including monitor technician duties: Monitors electrocardiography according to established standards. Recognizes cardiac arrhythmias, documents/records on EKG monitor strips, and notifies the appropriate RN of arrhythmias and rhythm changes.
Anticipates patient care needs. Conducts patient rounding in accordance with standards. Answers patient call lights: determines nature of problem and responds within scope and/or obtains appropriate resources.
Assists with or prepares patient for transport including moving patient to and from bed to gurney or wheelchair. Transports patients, patient belongings and valuables, blood products, supplies, pharmaceuticals, equipment and specimens to and from various locations. Follows safe patient handling protocols.
Provides administrative and technical support in the operation of the unit. Performs clerical duties including, but not limited to, receiving admitted patients; initiating patient files; taking action on physician orders; processing discharge orders, transfers and expirations; preparing hospital statistical records. May process daily charges and charge corrections.
Serves as the hub of communication for the unit; manages multiple phone calls and threads of communication. Serves as a front-line customer service representative; displays professional interpersonal skills when communicating with patients, the public and staff. Answers and/or directs inquiries for staff and visitors.
Maintains and orders unit supplies and equipment. Assures stock levels of department supplies are at PAR level and stored appropriately. Retrieves equipment needed for patient care.
Serves as a patient advocate. Exercises discretion in the management of patient information and assures strict patient confidentiality.
Responds to emergency situations in a calm and supportive manner. Maintains composure and professional demeanor in stressful situations.
Develops and maintains professional and clinical skills. Completes all annual competency and education requirements within established parameters and timeframes. Participates in staff meetings, patient care meetings, educational in-services and other professional activities. Maintains awareness of policies and procedures and performance standards.
Serve as a Patient Safety Companion when needed.
Other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience:

High school diploma or equivalent.
Completion of WA approved nursing assistant training program.
One (1) year of in-hospital nursing assistant experience in acute care, emergency, &/or ICU/CCU
Monitor Technician, Unit Secretary, and/or HUC experience preferred.

Required Licenses, Certifications and/or Registrations:

Current Nursing Assistant-Certified (NA-C) license in the state of Washington
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, or within 180 days of hire.
Monitor tech certification required within 3 months of hire for assignments including monitor technician duties.
