OIC CAREER OPPORTUNITY

The Office of the Insurance Commissioner's (OIC) P&C Actuarial Services Unit is seeking a motivated and qualified individual to fill an Actuary 2 position. This position is assigned to the Rates, Forms, and Provider Networks Division, located in our Tumwater office.

The Actuary 2 position contributes to OIC goals of protecting consumers, maintaining a healthy insurance climate, and improving customer service by reviewing property and casualty rate filings, and performing the actuarial components of property and casualty financial examinations.

We are looking for someone who is able to apply a thorough knowledge of Washington statutes and regulations, as well as actuarial principles, to the review of property and casualty insurance rates and reserves.

This is a Washington General Service position. The monthly salary range for this position is $9,021 - $12,128.

DUTIES
The duties of the position include, but are not limited to:
  • Perform independent analyses to determine whether company rate requests are justified.
  • Evaluate reasonableness of insurers' data and actuarial methods.
  • Analyze data on losses, loss adjustment expenses, underwriting expenses, and profit provisions.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable statutes and regulations.
  • Communicate results to insurers and when appropriate, to OIC management.
  • Handle filing review in accordance with established OIC procedures.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required Qualifications:

You must meet one of the qualification options listed and any additional qualifications included in this section.
  • Eight (8) years or more of property casualty actuarial experience.
  • An associate degree and six (6) years of property casualty actuarial experience.
  • A bachelor's degree and four (4) years of property casualty actuarial experience.
  • A master's degree and two (2) years of property casualty actuarial experience.
AND

One of the following actuarial credentials:
  • Associate of the Casualty Actuarial Society; or
  • Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society; or
  • Fellow of the Society of Actuaries with the General Insurance track.
Preferred/Desired Qualifications:
  • Member of the American Academy of Actuaries.
  • Experience working with insurance regulatory issues and requirements.
  • Experience with predictive modeling, such as GLMs and tree-based models.
  • Intermediate or higher skill level in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook
