About the Opportunity
This is an open position with MonPower, a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp MP .
This is an on-site position. The selected candidate may be located at any of the following locations in WV: Clarksburg, Weston, Elkins, Marlinton, Franklin.
Summary:
This supervisor position is responsible for providing leadership for their assigned Work Management group within the Utility Operations Engineering Services organization. This includes collaborating with Manager, Work Management to establish and monitor organizational goals, policies, plans, forecasts, and standards; achieving performance, operating and financial objectives and budgets; and managing resources.
This position is responsible for supervising both short-range and long-range planning/scheduling and readiness coordinator operational processes, analyzing results, and supporting the implementation of process improvements with an eye on maximizing operational productivity and efficiency associated with FirstEnergy's work management system.
This position will provide leadership from the following perspectives:
Work Management:
- Demonstrating and directing a solid commitment to all aspects of safety, promoting Leading with Safety principles, utilizing Safety & Human Performance tools, and strengthening the commitment to safety throughout their assigned Work Management and field operations areas of responsibility.
- Leading work management planner/schedulers associated with forecasting, short-term planning, and scheduling to ensure standardized Work Management processes are followed for assigned operations centers within Utility Operations.
- Supervising the daily activities of planner/schedulers, readiness coordinators, and administrative support by making decisions guided by policies, procedures, and business plan which help to drive continuous improvement across the business unit and FirstEnergy.
- Supervising the prioritization of field operations projects and workload for assigned operations centers within Utility Operations.
- Supervising a firm two-week plan of assigned operations center activities, and a one-month projection of anticipated future activities providing management with a daily work plan and job contingency strategy.
- Supervising long-range planning efforts for assigned operations centers within Utility Operations to ensure the most effective use of resources and completion of the highest priority work for Utility Operations.
- Engaging Engineering Services and Operations Leadership teams across assigned operations centers to establish and achieve safe, reliable operations
- Providing oversight across assigned operations centers to ensure user acceptance and planning, pre-job readiness, and scheduling process adherence.
- Leading the development and implementation of scheduling strategies for assigned operations centers within Utility Operations.
- Leading continuous improvement efforts by leveraging Work Management MDT systems.
- Supervising the coordination of work request activity with customers, contractors, internal entities and line department sections (including contacts beyond normal work hours, as appropriate), and providing status updates when requested.
- Supervising the following activities for assigned operations centers: calling in UG Utility locates (i.e., OUPS, PA ONE CALL, MISO Utility Tickets), submitting switching requests to the Distribution Control Center, submitting requests for traffic control, and submitting requests for outages in the Outage Management Database (reverse IVR)
- Defining, coordinating and assuring the availability of the materials, equipment, special tools, and permits needed to establish work commitment dates and taking steps to expedite delivery when necessary and /or practical.
- Supporting the FirstEnergy storm process.
- Making sound financial and business decisions.
Communications:
- Encouraging open, honest, direct, and ongoing conversation across utility operations groups and corporate support groups.
- Championing an environment within the business unit where self-development is encouraged.
- When needed, lending expertise to an internal team(s) and/or task force.
- Supporting the views and policies of the company and providing strategic direction to customers and employees.
- Fostering communications between work groups through timely and open dialogue.
- Providing timely and open discussion to team on organization initiatives and updates.
- Planning and facilitating team meetings.
Performance Management:
- Developing the skills and knowledge of team
- Supporting and coaching employees on corporate and regional goals and driving achievement through performance and safety.
- Ensuring appropriate staffing levels are maintained to meet team goals and updates staffing plan as changing operating environment dictates.
- Providing consistent and clear leadership through effective communication of company and team goals.
- Involving team in development of specific goals.
- Encouraging employees to think creatively and develop innovative ways to meet and exceed goals.
- Effectively delegating responsibility.
- Preparing short- and long-range plans for team development by establishing training plans for changing business environment.
- Preparing succession plans and identifying promotional paths for employees.
- Working with employees in identifying professional goals and objectives while integrating them into development plans.
- Providing regular and routine feedback on performance, recognizing employee accomplishments and providing coaching for improvement and/or corrective actions.
- Conducting regular check-in conversations with team members to provide timely and relevant feedback on performance.
- Thoroughly understanding and administering human resource policies and regulations fairly and equitably for all employees.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree preferred, with 5 years of related work experience OR Associate's degree plus 7 years of related work experience OR High School Diploma (or GED) plus 8 years of related work experience. Related work experience includes line/substation construction & maintenance practices, customer service, project management, or knowledge of planning/scheduling/prioritization of work. Prior leadership experience is a preferred.
- Demonstrated project management experience as both a team leader and team member.
- Must have demonstrated ability to lead initiatives and change implementation.
- Must be self-motivated and able to multi-task with competing priorities, provide both internal and external quality customer service, and demonstrate effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Must possess leadership qualities that allow one to provide effective guidance to others, coach others in effective decision-making and facilitate meetings.
- Highly driven, self-motivated, and enthusiastic
- Strong analytical skills with focus on performance-based metrics.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) is required. Extensive knowledge of the WMI application base (i.e. GIS, CREWS, SAP) is preferred, in addition to WMI knowledge.
- Awareness of National Electric Safety Code (NESC) and National Electric Code (NEC).
- Working knowledge of the purpose, function, and operating characteristics of equipment and systems, (i.e. substation, overhead lines, underground lines), as well as working knowledge of construction methods, maintenance practices, service practices, standards and procedures.
