Hours: 3x12 hour shifts, 7am-7pm
The Licensed Practical Nurse is responsible for providing general nursing care to patients, under the direction of a Registered Nurse and in accordance with physician's orders and established standards and protocols. This position must integrate company values into daily practice.
Essential Functions:
Provides skilled nursing care to patients as ordered by the physician and under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.
Implements orders for medications and treatments as ordered by the physician and in accordance with nursing care plan as written by the RN.
Provides information to the Registered Nurse to assist in the development of an individualized plan of care for each patient.
Participates in evaluation of the effectiveness of interventions in relation to patient responses and seeks guidance in redirection when necessary.
Reports to supervisor on patient care rendered, problems concerning patients' needs, and resolution to those needs.
Helps identify patient problems and potential risks and contributes to the development of interventions.
Assists in identification of patient's learning needs and reinforces self-care and other techniques.
Appropriately designates applicable charges to individual patients using the hospital's established system.
May be required to work during inclement weather and other staffing emergencies.
Provides an environment conducive to safety for patients, visitors, and staff. Assesses the risks for safety and implements appropriate precautions. Complies with appropriate and approved safety and Infection Prevention standards.
Maintains regular attendance in keeping with assigned work schedule.
Performs other duties as assigned to support overall effectiveness of the organization.
Minimum Job Requirements
Minimum Education & Experience :
Two years' experience in inpatient hospital setting, inpatient rehabilitation experience preferred.
Required Licenses, Certifications, and/or Documentation:
Current state license as a Licensed Practical Nurse required.
Current BLS certification required.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of and adherence to current nursing theory and practice and infection prevention standards of practice.
Knowledge of accreditation standards to ensure adherence to all standards set forth by state and accrediting agencies of TJC and CMS.
Knowledge of clinical operations and procedures, and utilizes proper policies, procedures, and guidelines in caring for patients.
Demonstrates general computer skills including data entry, word processing, email, and records management.
Demonstrates critical thinking skills.
Effective organizational and time management skills.
Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, and complete complex tasks.
Ability to maintain quality, safety, and/or infection prevention standards.
Ability to work independently.
Ability to maintain proper levels of confidentiality.
Ability to work closely and professionally with others at all levels of the organization.
Physical Requirements Over the Course of a Shift:
A significant amount of standing, walking, bending, reaching, lifting, pushing, and pulling, often for prolonged periods of time.
Both gross and precise motor functions.
Lifting/exerting of up to 50 lbs.
Possible exposure to bodily fluids.
Visual acuity required for patient assessment and documentation of care.
Acute hearing required for accurate patient assessment.
Sufficient manual dexterity to operate equipment and computer keyboard.
Close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
