Director of Construction - Job Description

General Summary

The Director of Construction is responsible for providing strategic leadership, driving efficiencies and conducting oversight for all OSP construction activity within a region. This position manages and directs Construction Managers to build a performance driven construction and deployment team; setting the tone through strategic planning and clear, effective communication of initiatives, objectives, and performance including developing and implementing organizational metrics to drive results. This position will also be the primary contact with construction vendors, include cost negotiation, budgeting and program scheduling. This position will be based out of our Gillette, WY office.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities

  • Will play a primary role in the creation of construction budgets, schedule, and requirements of each project.
  • Propose and establish project specifications and requirements based on executive directives, business strategy, and client parameters.
  • Work with construction contractors and Area Construction Managers to create and execute project work plans, schedules, and control budgets as well as identify and acquire resources needed for prosecution of the project(s).
  • Identify, negotiate and onboard Construction Contractor resources when needed.
  • Oversee that completed network meets quality and engineering standards.
  • Communicate requirements and specifications to the Construction Manager and Construction staff, when necessary and desired, and assist with any questions related to the technology, equipment, and design requirements.
  • Review and approve all market agreements, permit and authorization compliance, contractor invoices and others, as applicable.
  • Maintain day-to-day communication with other Fiber departments.
  • Produce quality results in an efficient and cost-effective manner.
  • Represent Visionary Broadband professionally to satisfy immediate customer needs and to foster good customer relations.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with project teams, other internal departments, and the general public.
  • Pursue personal development of skills and knowledge necessary for the effective performance of the role and those of the project team.
  • Assist in other duties as needed and directed.

Job Requirements

  • Minimum of 10 years fiber construction management or FTTH deployment experience
  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of Telecom construction and engineering, project budget creation and management, project scheduling and tracking, project finance, cost reporting, and field office operations
  • Knowledge of fiber management and splicing standards
  • Good understanding of telecom network topology and customer connectivity
  • Able to effectively oversee multiple priorities with a strong attention to detail in a fast-paced environment
  • Results focused leadership using energetic and positive communication skills
  • Natural ability to work with all levels of management, staff, and vendors
  • Road and air travel required (25% or less), valid driver's license.

Physical Requirements:

This position requires sitting to complete work with a computer using a variety of software & GIS applications and telephone.

30%+ / - of the time will be spent walking and standing in the field with various weather conditions, as well as occasional lifting and/or carrying pushing/pulling of items less than 25 lbs.

Visual and audio acuity is essential to this position.
