About this client: Liam (24), is an engaging, bright and charming young man. He lives in a residential setting Monday to Friday and comes home at the weekends to spend time with his Mum and Dad. Liam enjoys going out and about into London. He loves engaging with people and enjoys people speaking with him and taking the time to get to know him. Liam does not like being ignored, or being treated or spoken to, as younger than he is. Liam has quadriplegic cerebral palsy and needs support with all transfers using his ceiling track hoist. He has a PEG feeding tube for all his nutrition, fluid and medication needs. Liam is non-verbal and communicates with his Smartbox device.
Overview of role: Liam requires a waking night carer to support him each Saturday night when he is at his family home in London. Shifts start at 9.30pm, and you ll assist him to get ready for bed; he will already have had his shower. Liam s parents will support you to get him ready for and transfer him into bed. The carer can then sit in the kitchen next door to Liam s bedroom with a monitor, and quietly read or study. Liam can sometimes take a while to settle down to sleep, it can take a few hours, and the carer will pop in when needed to check on him. There are some light domestic tasks related to Liam to undertake through the night, mostly folding his clothes. You will regularly go to check on Liam and vent his gastrostomy tube; Liam s Mum is happy to provide training in venting if candidates have experience with PEG feeding. On rare occasions, Liam may have a disturbed sleep; if he is unwell or if he needs personal care during the night. At these times, Liam s Mum needs to be woken up to support you. Liam usually wakes around 7.00am, and one of his parents will support you to transfer Liam out of bed and to start getting him ready for the day. Liam will respond very well to someone who is bright, friendly and kind, with strong communication skills.
Who this job would suit: This job will suit an emotionally mature, and experienced, female, waking night carer. Perhaps someone who is looking for additional hours to work alongside a current part time role, or someone who is studying and is looking for additional hours alongside this.
What s great about this job: Liam is a bright and charming young man, and working with him will be an incredibly rewarding experience. This is a long-term role with fantastic rates of pay. Who is recruiting for this role? Snap Care will be carrying out all recruitment including shortlisting, recruiter interviews and arranging employer interviews.
