Job description

Duties Duties and Responsibilities: The incumbent performs duties as the assistant to the Director of Force Support Network Operations. Performs setup, maintenance, troubleshooting network problems, and repair of both networked and non-networked servers, PC systems, print devices, Point of Sale systems, and other associated hardware and software. Conducts risk analysis for all computer systems. Documents anomalies and system failures for future use. Assists in the evaluation of hardware and software products for use by unit staff and provides appropriate input to Director or his/her designee. Provides user-level Local Area Network (LAN) support for unit staff, acting as initial contact for a variety of computer-related problems/issues at the unit level. Assists in the management of network access accounts as required, to include Remote Access and Exchange (Electronic Mail) accounts Establishes and maintains remote connectivity. Installs, configures, and manages applications software packages, to include multiple operating systems, Microsoft Office products, and a wide array of functional area software. Manages Active Directory servers, Domain Naming Service servers, applications servers, network boundary equipment, and a variety of network access equipment, to include switches, routers, hubs, and Digital Subscriber Line equipment. Ensures Payment Card Industry (PCI) Data Security Standards compliancy is met for all affected devices and packages and completes appropriate compliancy reports. Provides research and input to Director or his/her designee on installation, modification, and removal of computer-related resources. Organizes and presents written reports as needed. Assists personnel with computer-related training for unit staff as directed. Conducts on-the-job-training. Performs administrative management of servers and all associated network access equipment. Assures application of information security/information assurance policies, principles and practices in the delivery of network services. Implements program security measures and tools for optimal network operations. Configures enclave perimeter firewalls, servers, switches, and routers. Supports end user requirements and requests. Integrates hardware and software components within the systems environment. Maintains hardware and software obsolescence, and life-cycle requirements. The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles. This position has been identified as a Test Designated Position (TDP). The incumbent of this position will be subject to and must consent to a pre-employment and random drug testing. This position requires IA certification IAW DoD 8570-01-M within six months from date of hire. Must be able to obtain and maintain a Security + certification within twelve months from date of hire. Qualifying Experience: Installing and configuring firewalls (i.e., Cisco, Juniper, McAfee, or equivalent) and network operating systems (i.e., Windows Server, Virtual Machine (VM)ware, Unix, z/OS, or equivalent); experience working with Storage Area, Local Area, and Wide Area networks (i.e., setting up, providing technical support, and/or maintaining networks); experience using database query language (i.e., Structured Query Language-SQL, Data Manipulation Language-DML, or equivalent) to communicate with database management systems. Must have qualifying experience as well as one year specialized experience at the next lower level or equivalent. OR Education: Must have Undergraduate or Graduate Education: Degree in computer science, information systems management, or technology management; or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in or one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks. Note: Experience above should demonstrate these four competencies: Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail. Customer Service-Such as providing assistance to both internal and external customers; assessing customers' needs, meeting quality standards, and evaluating customer satisfaction. Oral Communication- Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately. Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations. Education Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does allow for education substitution. FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program.
