About the role:
As the Accounts Payable Manager, you will be leading a team of 7-10 professionals to ensure that the organization's accounts payable and related financial operations run smoothly, including vendor onboarding, staff training and development, providing excellent customer service, and compliance with internal and external audits. You will play a pivotal role in ensuring efficient, accurate, and timely management of the payables process, working collaboratively to streamline and improve processes for handling payments across the organization.
What you'll do:
Lead and mentor a high-performing team responsible for the Accounts Payable process.
Have the opportunity to recruit, hire, support, and train staff, ensuring adequate coverage and continuing professional development.
Communicate and collaborate regularly with other accounting managers, key internal and external stakeholders to optimize the accounts payable function and provide guidance as needed.
Oversee the vendor onboarding process, establish clear guidelines, and maintain a consistent database.
Manage the receipt and timely processing of payable transactions to the general ledger, such as vendor invoices on purchase orders, prepayments, employee reimbursements and student financial aid payments utilizing an ERP system.
Manage the Accounts Payable month-end close activities, prepare journal entries, and produce year-end financial reports.
In collaboration with the organization's management team, contribute to updating policies, procedures, and identifying opportunities for continuous process improvements, driving efficiency within the Accounts Payable function.
Ensure compliance with applicable tax and regulatory filings, including audit documentation and 1099 preparation.
Develop and maintain key performance indicator reports and ensure accurate record-keeping and financial controls.
Develop specialized accounting reports and perform other related duties as assigned.
What you will bring:
3+ years of management experience in the Accounts Payable job function or in general accounting, auditing, financial operations, or related fields, with a strong track record of successfully leading high-performing teams.
Preferred Bachelor's degree in Business, Public Administration, or Accounting .
Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, and navigate a fast-paced environment
Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills
Demonstrated excellent customer service skills
Hands-on experience using ERP software such as Finance Enterprise, PeopleSoft, SAP, or Oracle.
Expertise in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, with strong quantitative and analytical skills.
A collaborative spirit and passion for process improvement, accuracy and efficiency with an ability to see the bigger picture.
