Job description

responsibilities include: managing a caseload; answering phone inquiries; staffing the front counter; performing file reviews; tailoring information to meet the specific needs and situations of individual students; determining financial aid eligibility; and awarding financial aid. Although the incumbent is assigned to a specific alpha section, the caseload is not restricted to this section and may be adjusted by management to address student service needs. The Student Personnel Technician is expected to acquire knowledge and proficiency in several federal, state, and third-party software systems to effectively assist students and verify financial aid eligibility. Required Qualifications & Experience: Equivalent to two years of full-time responsible general clerical experience in a college or university financial aid office which has demonstrated acquisition of a practical understanding of the policies and procedures of financial aid programs. General knowledge of interviewing techniques; thorough knowledge of the policies and procedures of the various financial aid programs available at the CSU. Must have knowledge of standard office procedures and practice; excellent oral and written communication skills; and basic computer skills. Must have strong customer service skills and demonstrate the ability to learn new information and computer programs/systems. Ability to: sustain a working knowledge of the changes in financial aid programs; obtain, analyze and evaluate data for specific use; advise and assist students in selecting and processing financial aid contracts; keep records and write clear reports; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, faculty and co-workers; and work under supervision and within assigned time lines; handle large volumes of work; keep track of many details; and perform work with high levels of accuracy in a fast-paced environment. The incumbent must have a demonstrated interest and/or ability in working in a multicultural/multiethnic environment. A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the application status of applicants or continued employment of current CSU employees who may apply for the position.
